Information on Pharmicist

From 3arf

We all realize what a pharmacist does; they are the people that are behind the counter of your pharmacy, sometimes in a white coat, other times in street clothes, but always looking professional. This does not depict the vast amount of knowledge that they hold. They must know every drug on the market, what it is used for and the possibly interactions with other drugs. They carry a tremendous load of responsibility so must know their work extremely well, our lives depend on them. Sometimes we don't think of the pharmacist responsibilities and duties other than passing us our prescription and listening to their explanation of each drug they give us. Their duties go far beyond what we see while we are there.

A pharmacist has to have a complete knowledge of the metric system especially in Canada as metric is compulsory, they have to know the most common drugs up to and including any new drugs that is placed on the market. The drugs uses and usual dosages, besides this they have to know computerized pharmacy medication to be able to order what drugs they need. In spite of this they still have time to come and chat with you about the type of medications you have and any side effects that they may cause and still make you feel like you're the most important person in the store at the time.

They have to know about aseptic techniques for preparing sterile products and the ability to use equipment such as computers, typewriters, and pharmaceutical packaging equipment. One of the uses of the computer is to allow them to interpret a prescription written by the physician and we all know what it's like to try deciphering their handwriting, for us, it is just not possible, yet they have to do this so that they can put it on the prescription bottle for us to understand.

Their duties don't stop with this they also have safety and health precautions that must be strictly followed. They have to deliver medications to meet standard or emergency patient care. They have to keep accurate records and they are totally responsible for any controlled substance in their pharmacy while keeping and maintaining an inventory. That's a lot for someone that always meets you with a smile.

The biggest responsibility is making sure each of us get exactly what the doctor ordered. This is a mind boggling thought and would probably send us in frenzy if we had to do it. Our pharmacist is a very close friend to us all, one that manages our drugs and makes sure we are well informed on what we are taking. They are there for any minor questions we have to ask them and quite willingly give us the answers but also to give us advice on when we should be seeing a doctor. They carry a knowledge that keeps us confident and safe through any type of sickness we may have. I depend on my pharmacist for many things out of the normal prescriptions and he is always there with my best interest in mind.
