Improving your Employability Employment Job Interview Resume Job Interview Questions

Making yourself more employable can be a fun and rewarding experience. So, the big question here is what steps to take in order to accomplish this task?

I'm sure we all agree that in order to land a job we must first have a job interview. This, of course includes getting your resume in the hands of the employer. But let's say you have accomplished all of this, and you re sitting face to face with the hiring manager. They will be asking you questions about your past employment and other pertinent questions. But in addition to the usual employment questions, the manager will also be observing you and how you react to the questions. They will also be focused in on how you are dressed and how well groomed you are. So, the questions are really just a part of the entire interview.

OK, you've practiced with a friend doing a mock interview, and you feel you can answer the employer's questions with confidence. But when doing this, were you also aware of your posture? Believe it or not, your posture tells an employer a lot about you. An example of this would be sitting in a slouched position in your chair. This tells the employer a lot about you. They may think you are not really interested in the job because your posture says I really don't care. How about excessive blinking? You may not know you are doing this, but the employer definitely sees it. This might tell the employer you are a very nervous person, and can't be trusted under pressure.

The point I am making here is the interviewer is observing your body movements as well as how you answer the questions. A good idea would be to practice with a friend, or even video tape yourself and you will see for yourself how you look during the interview. You may consider this a lot of work, but if it means getting hired, it's well worth the time.

Let's not forget how you dress for the interview, and other body "decorations." How you dress is just as important as body position, and how you answer the questions.  Your manner of dress gives the employer the very first impression of you. If you don't make a favorable impression here, the employer might decide you are not right for the job, and the rest of the interview doesn't matter.

So, what is the proper way to dress for the interview? It depends on the job. If you are applying for an executive position, you would be expected to wear a suit. If you are being interviewed at a home improvement store like Home Depot, you can wear jeans and a polo shirt.

But,  the important thing about the way you dress is to not wear any distracting bright colors or flashy fashions. Keep it simple, and just make sure everything has a good match, such as your shoes, tie, etc. Also, don't go to the interview with any body rings or other flashy Jewelry. This can definitely leave a negative impression on the employer.

If you know the answers to typical interviewing questions, and you are dressed and groomed well, as well as having a good upright posture, you will definitely make a positive impression on the interviewer, and make yourself more employable.
