Hybrid Supercar Capable of Reaching more than 200mph
Jaguar is to launch its C-X75 concept car as an exclusive hybrid supercar which will be capable of reaching more than 200mph but with expected CO2 emissions of less than 99g/km. The Jaguar C-X75 will be the British marque’s most advanced model yet, offering performance to match the world’s fastest production cars, while using advanced technology to return economical running.
The car maker says the C-X75 will be the finest looking and most innovative Jaguar ever produced. There will be a production run of only 250 models and each will cost between £700,000 and £900,000.
The Jaguar C-X75 will be developed by Jaguar Land Rover, which is part of Tata Motors, in association with Williams F1, from the world of motorsport. Williams F1 will be providing expertise on aerodynamics, carbon composite manufacture and hybrid technologies.
Sir Frank Williams, chairman of Williams F1, said: ‘Our new association with Jaguar Land Rover provides us with an exciting opportunity to work with one of the motoring world’s most famous and iconic brands. Williams has always considered itself an engineering company and so this project will allow us to combine our technical expertise to create something truly exceptional.’
The transfer of technology from motorsport to a road-going production car will see the Jaguar C-X75’s chassis being made of carbon-fibre to create a lightweight strong structure.
Jaguar will not be using the micro-turbine technology that was showcased in the original concept C-X75 - however, Tata has taken a stake in Bladon Jets and will develop the technology for use in cars at a later date. The C-X75 will use a small-capacity, highly-boosted internal combustion engine with a powerful electric motor at each axle. Using the electric motors and the combustion engine together, the C-X75 will have a phenomenal 0-60mph time of less than three seconds.
Bob Joyce, group engineering director for Jaguar Land Rover, said: ‘The engine’s compact size allows it to be mounted low in the car for optimum weight distribution and to retain the concept’s stunning silhouette. This will make the Jaguar C-X75 a bona fide hybrid supercar capable of silent electric running with an extensive EV (electric vehicle) range in excess of 50km.’
Carl-Peter Forster, chief executive officer of Tata Motors, concluded: ‘Never before has the company launched such an ambitious, world-beating vehicle programme. This is the Jaguar of the future. The opportunity for innovation like this in the UK is part of the reason Tata Motors invested in Jaguar and it's fantastic that products like the C-X75 can become reality.’
