Hummers – Yes

Note:  Ruthless and brutal criticism for this debate is intended for this article; however, this is due to the expressions of my feelings, thoughts, and opinions about this topic.

In my personal opinion, I believe that the Hummer should be outlawed for road travel for two reasons:  The first reason is that since the Hummer has a humongous gas tank (even bigger than a stock Chevrolet Suburban/GMC Yukon XL), consumers would have to fill up probably every other two or three days, and pay about $100 for a fill up at $3.00 a gallon.  The second reason has to depend on which area of the United States you live in.  If you live in sunny Southern California like I do, then I really (I emphasize on the word “really”) do not see any point of driving a Hummer at 65 mph on Pacific Coast Highway down to Newport Beach.  Think about how bad the gas mileage is on cars like these; I am actually glad that General Motors had sold the Hummer brand out of the United States.

Hummers, to me, are nothing but slow, gas-guzzling 4-wheeled tanks that are really meant to be driven on dirt roads of Death Valley or Camp Pendleton by the United States Military.  Even if you say that you can afford a Hummer, you are pretty much an idiot.  There are a lot of four-wheel drive vehicles on the market today, such as the Toyota FJ Cruiser and 4Runner, the Chevrolet Suburban, and even the Nissan Armada.  So, why don’t you just save your money, and buy something that is cheaper, more fun to drive, and practical?  Besides, do you see a lot of Hummers nowadays equipped with Bluetooth and an iPod connection?

Hummers are also VERY expensive, both in price, and in cost of ownership.  They are very hard to maintain, and I am pretty sure that you would have to change your oil (whether it is synthetic or ‘all-natural’ I should say) about every 1,000 miles instead of the usual 3,000-5,000 miles like everyone else is doing.  I would never buy a Hummer for any reason, even if my best friend told me they are “safe cars” (Yeah, right).  Safe cars, huh?  I bet those things do not even have airbags as standard equipment.

Since the Hummers are also considered “large SUVs” like the Cadillac Escalades and the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, they are not environmentally friendly…at all.  Like I have stated, the gas mileage on these hogs are horrific.  Rubbish.  Ghastly.  I mean, come on, 9 miles per gallon in the city, and just a measly 12 miles per gallon on the highway?  A standard Maybach 57 S has about the same type of gas mileage, and the Maybach looks a hell of a lot nicer than a Hummer!  Think about it:  You have a car (actually, a truck) that has a 45-gallon tank, and you fill her up with 87 octane at $3.11 a gallon; how much money would you have to fork out MONTHLY for a car like this?  You do the math, and we will be in touch.
