How to keep your Job in a Tough Economy by being Flexible
In today's tough economy great career attributes to have are the abilities of adaptability and flexibility. With employers firing employees because companies are still looking to cut costs and make money as they see fit, you are an expendable commodity. In other words, you can be fired at will, if your were hired as an at will employee. Therefore, you need to be flexible and adaptable so that you can keep your job, and so that you continue learning and gaining new skills, making money.
When employees are not willing to adapt and change, they may be seeing a new side of life; unemployment. Employees that are versatile, and are willing to go with the flow, are the employees that corporations will consider keeping when times are tough.
Be flexible and adaptable for the company
When the CEO, CFO, the owner or your boss notices that you are flexible, and adaptable, you are seen as being a more valuable employee than an employee that is not willing to change or learn. Valuable employees that can perform many job functions as well as taking on many job duties are the employees that keep their jobs. These are usually the employees that are moved up the ladder, becoming an increasingly valuable employee to the business.
Besides being an intelligent, hardworking employee, employers look for potential employees that are flexible and adaptable. Many businesses today are looking for employees that can do more than one job. Many employers downsized to so many employees attempting to increase profit, while decreasing expenditures. Therefore, employers fired, and laid off people who were not willing or able to do more than one job. That's why you need to be able to do more than one job today, in an increasingly competitive job market and competitive, shrinking business world.
Even though companies are watching out for number one, and watching the ever increasing bottom line, it may seem unrealistic when your boss heaps more work onto your overflowing desk. But when you manage to get the work accomplished with a smile on your face, and the work well done, a reward of keeping your job and getting a raise, are strong possibilities.
Be flexible and adaptable for yourself
Flexibility and adaptability are good attributes to have in today's tough economic climate because you are doing yourself many favors. You will find that your job is easier to do when you accept what is handed you. By giving your job all you have, and by having a great flexible, adaptable attitude, you are seen as a great employee. You get to keep your job. You are learning valuable lessons whereas an employee with a negative, bad attitude will not move up the ladder of success, or gain raises and rewards.
Being flexible and adaptable help you learn as much as possible gaining more experience. Employees that gain more experience and learn as much as possible are the employees that become the managers, and the people with authority over other employees. Flexible, adaptable employees learn from their mistakes becoming better employees that make more money. Strong, knowledgeable employees can become CEO's and CFO's. Flexible, adaptable employees eventually can thrive starting their own multi- million dollars making businesses.
Flexibility and adaptability are good career attributes to have whether you are looking for new employment or if you are looking to make more money with your current employer. Either way, being flexible and adaptable will help you become a better employee, and will help you create great career goals.
