How to get your Child into Show Business
They say there’s no business like show business, and you and your child might be interested in this. There are different ways that you can break your child into this competitive field, including the following.
It’s not what you know….
But who you know, says the famous saying, and it’s true. It is no wonder that many of the famous actors and actresses today have parents or other relatives in the field. When you know someone they may be able to pull some strings or cash in a favor by getting you your start with a small part in a film. Others might be more likely to hire you if you know of someone within the field. Think about anyone you know in show business who might be able to introduce you to the right people or help you get started. Even if they are not an actor or an actress but in some sort of behind the scenes capability, they still might be able to help you. Also ask around to see if there are any friends of friends who might be of service. Anything is better than nothing.
Look for an agent or talent agency
There are many talent agencies out there, and some of them might legitimately help your child break into show business. Unfortunately, a lot of them are more interested in taking your money than providing your child a chance to make it into acting. Make sure that you thoroughly do research on any agency that you are considering and beware of the ones that ask you for a lot of money. They should be actively getting you auditions and help your child get places instead of just taking money. Of course, your child might also need some acting lessons if he or she could use a little brushing up on these skills.
Go to auditions
Sometimes the best thing to do is just to go for it. There are many auditions that are open, and that you can just go to. It does happen that someone gets “discovered” at these auditions. You might have to start smaller. Your child’s first foray isn’t likely to be the lead in a major motion picture film. However, you might be able to start him or her in commercials or as an extra and work your way from there.
Breaking into show business is difficult and it usually takes a combination of skill and luck. Try the above strategies when embarking on this venture.
