How to get out of the House when Working from Home

From 3arf

Working at home has some very clear benefits. You don't have to dress professionally everyday, it saves you money on gas and you don't have to deal with rush hour traffic. However, depending on what exactly you do sometimes there can be slow times when you are waiting for a phone call or some other important document too arrive or one of a half a dozen other things when you are working from home.

Right after you go grocery shopping, church or wherever else you may go over the course of a week, it is not hard to go four or five days without leaving the house at all, which can understandably make some people go stir crazy or cause people to get cabin fever. While this can be a distinct disadvantage to working at home, the good news is that it can be managed. The exact way to manage it depends on the exact situation which you are facing.

During work, if you are waiting on a phone call/document to arrive you can do the following and also should not do the following:

You should not just sit there. Sitting there staring into space is a waste of yoo ur mind. Instead you can go over other documents that can help you get better at your job.

If this is not option, there are probably other reports you can study to get an idea as to where you are struggling and succeeding and try to come up with a plan to get better where you need to. Depending upon the nature of your job, you may even be able to schedule an appointment with your boss to find out how you can get better and learn about opportunities for advancement within the company.

If none of the above are options or you have beaten that into the ground, at the least you can stand up from your chair and stretch or do jumping jacks. If you choose to do the latter, just keep in mind that you need to be prepared to answer the phone at any second and should not be out of breath. To prevent running out of breath you should do the jumping jacks at a slow pace.

For when you are not working

If you are physically active, it should not be hard. At the very least you can take walks around your neighborhood on a frequent basis. If you have a spouse and/or pet to do it with then that is even better. If you have breaks during the day or you don't start until later in the day you can use that time to clean the house, work outside and do other chores.

So what if you are getting cabin fever? Then your next option would be too get involved in your community. Too get involved you can contact your local church. Your local news station my have other ideas and then you can also call the more common community service companies such as Habitat for Humanity, United Way or The American Red Cross.
