How to get out of a Speeding Ticket

From 3arf

We have all done it, sometimes on purpose, sometimes without even noticing. Speeding is just a part of life. Usually it works out okay, but then there are those terrifying moments when you see the flashing red and blue lights in your rear view mirror. What’s the first thing you do? Look at your speedometer of course! Sure enough, you were going 10mph over the limit and now your heart is racing as you pull over and stop. The big jerk that just pulled you over gets closer to your window and you reach for your license and registration. What do you tell him? You surely can’t go home with another ticket.

  1. 1: The first thing women think of to do is cry. To make this situation pass quickly make sure you blubber and cry loudly, and make it hard for him to understand you when you talk. He will not want to hear this for long, plus it will make him feel bad. Lets face it, most of the time that women cry is because a guy made her. So the cop, usually, will automatically feel sympathetic to your situation and be a bit more understanding. However, this trick usually doesn’t work all by itself so make sure to use one of the other techniques, just to be sure you are safe.
  1. 2: Remember, police officers are humans, too..So they like hearing compliments just as much as the next person, and that might just be your way out of the ticket. In order to flirt your way out of this situation, you really have to be very subtle. You can not make it seem as if your entire intention is to save some money, and possibly a court date. Start with a smile, and make sure to act sweet and innocent, but not in a manner that will make him think you are hiding something. When you are in the car next to the officer, make sure you compliment him about something, maybe mention how grateful you are to have police officers in your community, and thank him for his duties. If he responds well, flat out as him for a date. (Now is the time to stop being subtle) Even if he says no, he will be so shocked that you asked him out, you know since he pulled you over and is possibly giving you a ticket, that he will most likely just knock it down to a warning. Be careful to read his signs though, you don’t want to go to jail for trying to bribe a cop!
  1. 3: My guess is that around 80% of people who are involved with cops involuntarily, start out pretty defensive and probably come off as a little rude. So don’t! Be one of the citizens that stand out in the crowd, in a good way. Be polite as your momma taught you to be. Say “yes sir” and “no ma’am”, make sure you apologize and admit guilt. Don’t try and make an excuse or even give them the reason that you were speeding. Just sit there look straight ahead and mind your P’s and Q’s. Cops really like to feel like they are in control, why not help them out once in a while and make them feel special? Chances are, from my own personal experiences, a warning is the most you will get since you were being rude. Simply for being polite you really can get rewarded, even from a cop!
  1. 4: One of the best and worst ways to get out of a ticket is to lie. It really depends on what lie you tell, and how good you are at telling it. Just remember, cops are smart, and some of your stories can be picked apart in a matter of seconds, no matter how long it took you to come up with them. If you are really good at acting you could fake trying to be a hero…”Oh man officer, am I glad to see you! Some idiot just about ran me off the road, I was trying to catch up to that loser and get the plate numbers and call it in!”  However, you better be pretty convincing, and when he asks you for the approximate make and model of this imaginary vehicle, you better not hesitate, you better be mad and worked up, and you better be able to remember exactly what you told him, because he will ask you more than once! I would not suggest lying about an emergency. If you tell him your grandparent just got life flighted to the emergency room, he could easily have that information to him in just a few minutes. If you are caught in a lie like that, a ticket will definitely be in your future, as well as possible jail time.
  1. 5: Know your laws. So many people driving don’t know what exact rights they have. For example, in the state of Iowa, police officers have to have their parking lights on when setting up a speed trap after dark, that way they can be seen. If you don’t pay attention to their lights that is definitely your fault, but if they don’t have them on in the first place they can’t do a darn thing. Another example for Iowa, when you get pulled over for speeding they can give you a warning at any time, but in order to actually give you a ticket they have to have caught you and clocked you on the radar gun. You have the right to ask to see the clocked speed. If they don’t have it clocked, you need to speak up and tell them you know your rights, it could save you upwards of $100!  The only problem with these laws is that, just like anything else in court, you have to be able to prove your case. The radar gun is easy because if your case goes to court they have to have that as evidence, if they don’t, you win. However, good luck on anything else.
