How to get Unstuck in Snow or Ice

From 3arf

Who wants to get stuck in the snow, or even stuck on a slippery, slick piece of ice?...Nobody! But it does happen. And when it does, the main thing to remember is to stay calm and focused. You may be able to stay calm, but are you able to distinguish the direction your car tires are going between the direction the snow or ice is pulling the car? Well, if you don't, I would like to share a few learning experiences that may help you if you are ever stuck in the snow, or even if you get s bit or slick, slippery ice below the snow.

Of course snow can be your worst enemy is you submit to it and allow it to feel like it has the best of you. When you remain calm, you give yourself a better advantage to getting unstuck. First stop, and then figure out that if you keep sitting there,s pinning in that place you are stuck in, you are doing nothing but creating a hole for yourself. Most people will tell you to 'rock' the vehicle. In this motion, you will put the car in reverse, slowly giving it some gas, then putting the vehicle in drive, making a small leadway to getting unstuck. But if you use this procedure with to much acceleration, or too many tries, you will definitely find yourself in a slick hole, sending out a smell of burned rubber. And yes, this burned rubber is the smell coming from your tires.

The key is to make you a leadway, but to also keep your tires turned away from the hole you could have made with being stuck. As you turn your wheel while in reverse, use that leadway to pull you out. Now, place the vehicle in drive, turning your wheel in the opposite direction, stay in a steady acceleration. This will pull the car out of the stuck position, giving you the advantage to continue out of the stuck position.

Now that you have the vehicle in a pulling motion, continue turning the wheel in alternate positions, because the tires will be manipulated by the snow or ice. Keep a good grip on your steering wheel, and keep a steady acceleration, you will find yourself free from being stuck in the snow or ice in no time!

Many people go into a frantic state once they get stuck in snow or on ice. I live in Michigan, and have had my fair share of 'stuck incidents'. And believe me, it's only fun and funny once youu have freed yourself. But you must know and be able to recognize how to direct your vehicle when it comes to snow and/or icy conditions on the roadways.
