How to become a Veterinary Surgeon
To become a veterinary surgeon require the love of animals, years of study and a background in formal experience of caring for animals. It is different than those surgeons that study the human anatomy and can specialize in just one part of the human body. Instead a veterinarian has to know the anatomy of many different animals from large too small. It is not the easiest task to undertake and really needs the prerequisite of having a true need to care for the animal kingdom. On the practical side here is what is required to become a veterinary surgeon.
Becoming a veterinary surgeon should include a bachelor degree in some aspects of science or medicine. Although this is not a requirement if you want to become a veterinary that has a complete understanding of every animals anatomy it is the best way to go. There are a selection of three exams you can take which are a GRE, MCAT and VCAT to even qualify for acceptance into the twenty eight programs that are offered for a veterinarian. If you have already chosen a school of your choice it is best to research the exams they are willing to accept as some schools require different exams.
Once you start attending your school for veterinarians you have four years to complete the program to become a certified veterinarian. In these four years you should complete it and receive your degree. When you have completed this you have two options. You can go through an internship before becoming licensed or you can become licensed on the completion of your degree. Quite a few of the veterinarians will opt for the hands on experience before taking on a practice of their own. However if your goal is to become board certified completing an internship is a requirement at a larger hospital. This is a requirement if you want to specialize in any type of exotic animal, dentistry or brain surgery.
Becoming a veterinarian takes a lot of patience and understanding of animals. It certainly helps to be enthusiastic with your work and wanting to treat animals for the greater good of their health. It is not a job that everyone is suited for or wants to put in the time required to become a veterinarian.
