How to become a Massage Therapist
Massage Therapy is one of the faster growing professions as more and more people seek the help and advice of alternative healers when it comes to health and wellness.
Before choosing a high-quality massage school you need to ask yourself a few questions in an effort to find out whether this profession is truly for you. What is your main purpose of wanting to become a massage therapist? Are you looking for a quick training that will give you the potential to earn a lot of money or is healing and wanting to help others your passion? If it is the latter one, then you should read on. But if you are only choosing this profession because you have heard that you could make a lot of money, then you should seriously consider other alternatives. I have seen too many massage school graduates who gave up massaging and healing within the first year.
Excelling in Massage Therapy takes a certain skill, a higher intuitive ability to guide a client onto that path of better health. This ability is the key to becoming an excellent therapist, a healer whose clients will drive long distances to experience his or her intuitive and exceptionally healing touch.
Being a massage therapist requires a lot from you on a physical as well as an emotional basis. It can be very hard on your body requiring you to watch your body mechanics to avoid injuries. You have to learn how to use your own body weight to apply pressure. This will save you a lot of energy. As a massage therapist you will have to be a very good listener. People will tell you about their needs, and they will also tell you about their worries in life. Sometimes you could end up massaging eight hours a day, sometimes less. It is exhausting but rewarding at the same time. Some people will actually present themselves as grumpy and unhappy people. After the massage they will get up and smile at you. Knowing that you made a difference is one of the greatest achievements.
Being a massage therapist also means being a role-model. This profession comes with a certain image. A documented study showed that therapists who are knowledgeable, experienced and physically fit have a higher success rate than therapists who display an unhealthy image.
Every time you massage a client or you treat somebody you will most likely touch them. This means that you give and receive energy, negative or positive. You will have to take time for yourself and refuel your energy system before treating the next client. Some massage therapist have learned how to block that energy.
So, if helping people is your passion and your intuition, then this profession is for you. The best part about this profession is its possibilities. The sky is the limit.
Choosing a good school is essential, but your willingness to never stop learning is far more important. For licensing purposes it is necessary that you chose an accredited school though.
Before graduation you somewhat need to determine your goal. Are you going into sports massage? Would you like to advance your skills in energy healing? Or are you looking to learn more about Osteopathy? This is just the beginning, and as a passionate therapist you should take every opportunity to advance your skills. Find your specialty and work on becoming that specialist that everyone is looking to seek to find that path to better health.
