How to be a Good Groom at your Rehearsal Dinner
Growing up, it's likely most boys didn't think they'd have to go through so many formal and organized events during the process of "getting married." One of these seemingly insignificant but actually crucial functions is the rehearsal dinner.
The rehearsal dinner is generally important for three reasons. The first reason is because it literally serves as the rehearsal for the wedding. Well, technically, the rehearsal dinner is held after a rehearsal of the wedding ceremony. After the bride, groom, and wedding party are all directed on where to stand in the ceremony, dinner is usually held as a celebration of the marriage, and (second reason) as an opportunity for the bride and grooms families to meet before the ceremony, if they haven't yet had the chance to do so.
And, finally, the third reason rehearsal dinners are important is because they provide you and your bride-to-be plenty of opportunities to thank your friends and family members for supporting your decision to commit to each other through marriage, and for taking part in your ceremony and subsequent celebrations.
If you are a groom lost amid the required rules of etiquette and appropriate behavior for your rehearsal wedding, but you want to strive to be the best groom you can be, keep the following suggestions in mind.
1. Support your bride. Help her greet guests and thank them for taking part in your ceremony and reception and experience this wonderful time in your lives together.
2. Be social. Don't just talk to your side of the family. Do your best to make everyone feel equally welcome and at home. Remember this is now your joint family and these two families have been brought together because of you and your partner, so this should be a great opportunity to get to know your new family members.
3. Thank everyone. Again, I can't stress enough how important it is to thank everyone for coming. The truth is, friends and family are what make celebrations joyful and monumental, and if you want your wedding guests to feel as happy as they've made you, you'll be sure to thank them for their continued support for your relationship.
Overall, being a good groom at your rehearsal dinner is easy. Just remember to be yourself, be thankful and genuine, and be sure to lend your bride-to-be a lending hand with anything she needs, if need be.
