How to be Thankful even when Working on Thanksgiving Day
Thanksgiving is a day set aside to rest from work and be thankful for blessings received. While the majority of people do not have to work on Thanksgiving Day, there are still those who need to work, even on the holiday.
Here are a few examples:
Police officers, firefighters and emergency
Hospital staff
Restaurant staff
Media personnel
Factory workers
Grocery stores
Retail Workers
Working on the holiday makes it more difficult to be thankful but there are several things that even those who work on Thanksgiving can be thankful for. Here are just a few of those things.
Be thankful for employment
While there are some who must work on the holiday, there are many who do not have employment. One of the things that many are taking for granted during these difficult economic times is employment. There are many who have lost nearly everything in these difficult economic circumstances. The option of going to work is one that many would welcome. We should be thankful that we do have jobs that keep us employed when so many people are searching for work. When working on the Thanksgiving holiday, be grateful that there is a job for employment.
Be thankful for the ability to work
Another issue that those who must work on Thanksgiving should consider is that they have the ability to work. There are those who are disabled and have lost the ability to work. Many of these people have the desire to work but cannot. The ability to work is something that most people take for granted. Instead of being grateful, they complain that they must work on Thanksgiving. When working on Thanksgiving, be thankful that there is the ability to work and maintain employment.
Be thankful to be needed
There are many people who are older and retired who wish to continue to contribute but cannot. These people have the desire to work but no longer have the opportunity. Being able to do a job and be needed is a blessing that is often forgotten. Being needed is worth our gratitude and thanks. There are many this holiday whop will feel less than needed and less than appreciated. When working on Thanksgiving, remember that it is a blessing to be needed.
One reminder for Thanksgiving is that there will be many people who choose to work but will not get paid. Many people make the choice to volunteer and give of their skills and their time to help others in need. It is this spirit that many need to gain when working for pay on Thanksgiving.
The issue of working on Thanksgiving is one that should bring up the opportunity for additional gratitude not more grumbling. Be thankful for the reality of having employment because there are millions without work. Be thankful for the ability to have employment because there are many who have lost the ability to work. Be thankful for being needed, even on Thanksgiving Day because there are millions who wish they were needed. Working on Thanksgiving Day is less than ideal but be grateful in spite of working because after all, it is Thanksgiving.
