How to Write a used Car Listing
When you write anadvertisementfor your used car you’ll need to be short, succinct and honest in your description. You’ll also need to outline important information about the car’s history and documentation.
If you’re selling the car because it has a problem you’ll need to be honest about it. True the car will be worth less than one in good running order. The problem is if you fail or conceal a known fault you might have to eventually deal with an irate customer who may insist on having his or her money back. Being honest removes the possibility of the sale going sour.
Is the car is subject to an annual inspection like the British Ministry of Transport Test (MOT). If the car is covered by a test certificate you’ll need to state when the certificate expires. The longer the certificate has to run the better for the seller. If the certificate has expired you’ll need to say so. An expired certificate may drastically reduce the cars resale value, and you’ll be best getting a new certificate before offering the vehicle up for sale. Now you need to accurately describe the car’s make and model. Do ensure you state if it is a GLS or a Sport etc. Now state the car’s engine size in cubic centiliters (cc). This is valuable information for some car buyer’s especially younger buyers who will be mindful of insurance costs.
Now you need to state the car’s qualities. For example is it good on fuel. If so say so. Have you made any modifications; this can be good or bad. Youngsters like ‘bells and whistles.’ Some modifications however, can affect the future buyer’s insurance costs. State its colour and give a word or two about the car’s reliability.
If you have recently spent a lot on repairs it is worth stating the work done. Has the car got a full service history (FSH), if so do mention it, as this is a good selling point. Another good selling point is to offer the buyer to have the car checked out by the AA, RAC or AAA type automobile society.
If the classified advertisement accepts pictures, use one. Pictures don’t show much about the car’s condition but it does allow the buyer to know what the model looks like. Often people buy a type of car simply on its looks rather than other factors.
Lastly, give your contact information and a rough time when it is suitable to telephone or call by. Always offer a test run and always accompany the potential buyer.
