How to Safely Wrap and Store your Delicate Christmas Ornaments

From 3arf

Once the Christmas holidays are over and it is time to take the Christmas tree down, you will want to pack all your beautiful, delicate Christmas ornaments safely away until next year. Many Christmas ornaments, especially glass ornaments, are very fragile and can easily break if not properly wrapped and stored in a safe place.

The following are several good ways to pack up your delicate Christmas ornaments to prevent them from getting damaged.

Bubble wrap

Bubble wrap is one of the best things to use when packing delicate Christmas ornaments. The thicker the better, bubble wrap provides a nice soft cushion for easily breakable ornaments. Wrap each ornament separately and store in a sturdy container. If you are including other ornaments and decorations in the same container, be sure to put the heavy items on the bottom and the delicate ornaments on top.

Tissue paper

Packing your ornaments in tissue paper is another option. Tissue paper doesn't take up as much room in a storage box, but it also doesn't provide the extra soft cushion that bubble wrap does. Over the years, tissue paper also tends to wear and tear and will need to be replaced, while bubble wrap can be recycled and used year after year.

Storing your ornaments

Once your ornaments are carefully wrapped, put them in a good, sturdy cardboard carton or plastic container. If you don't have any cartons, check with your local stores for boxes that are being thrown out or recycled. You can also buy inexpensive cardboard and plastic storage containers online and at many of your local stores.

If you buy ornaments that come in sectioned boxes, save those boxes for storing your ornaments if they are sturdy enough. For tiny, delicate ornaments, you can recycle your egg cartons and use them for storing. Add a little tissue paper for extra padding if there is enough room.

To save some money, you can also make your own ornament storagecontainers. Using some hot glue, attach some plastic cups to a thick piece of cardboard. Put an ornament in each cup. Make as many of these cup trays as you need and stack them together in a sturdy container. Before putting your ornaments away for the year, be sure to mark all your boxes "fragile" so you don't forget and put something heavy on top of them.

Ornament storage boxes

If you don't want the hassle of hunting for storage boxes or making your own, consider buying some boxes specifically designed for storing ornaments, with individual compartments or dividers. These space-savingornament storage boxesare very convenient and will last for years. There are also storage containers, bags and boxes available for your other Christmas decorations, as well, including round boxes for wreaths, sectioned containers for Christmas tree lights and large tree bags for storing artificial trees.

Safely packing up your delicate Christmas ornaments doesn't have to be difficult or expensive. Next year when you bring out your beautiful, delicate ornaments and start your holiday decorating, you will be very glad you made the extra effort to keep your ornaments safe and well-protected.
