- Sources to use on the removal of tree sap:
Many times when I've had tree sap on my vehicle, I used plain old mineral spirits. All you have to do is moisten your soft cloth and remove the entire area the sap is adhering to and once you've finished with the removal make yourself a paste of water and baking soda apply it to the sap and wipe it down and then wash the entire affected area down really good afterward.
Another method for cleaning tree sap is by using a water-soluble paint brush cleaner or you can apply plain old household bacon grease or just plain lard to the tree sap and rub it in good and you'll be amazed how quickly the sap will be removed. If you desire, you can also get you a commercial wax and grease-removing product which is available at any auto supply store. When you use this type cleaner, you'll need to dampen your clean soft cloth with the product and rub it into the affected area and re-apply it if necessary. Do not become alarmed if you notice a hazy appearance where you cleaned off the tree sap a good application of car wax will take away the haze and your car will never look like it has had any tree sap on it.
Another way to rid your car of any tree sap is to use plain finger nail polish remover. Just apply a dampen cloth with nail polish remover to the sap, and afterward, apply a mixture of water and baking soda and then wash down the area and then apply wax. Many people does not realize tree sap can scratch your paint so if your afraid of this, use mineral spirits or denatured alcohol and this will break down the sap to dissolve the sap.
If you notice tree sap on your vehicle get it off as soon as you can because if you leave it on for a long period of time, it will harder to remove. When you've left it on your vehicle for a period of time use a light-duty buffing compound, this will remove the harden surface on the sap spots. Then take mineral spirits or a similar solvent and rub off the sap spots. When you rub in these solvents do not apply a lot of pressure to avoid scratching your vehicle. You should then apply a good wax to clean up any marks that may be on your vehicle.
Did you know orange based solvents along with a piece of children's molding clay will also remove tree sap. Commercial chemicals which are used to remove road stains from your vehicle can also remove tree sap but always be sure to clean it up with a good car wax. There's also a new product which is called an automotive clay, when you rub it over the surface of your paint it will stick-to and pull-off any tree sap on the vehicle. If you purchase this product from an auto supply store, be sure to follow their directions properly.
