How to Find out about Lemon Laws in your State

From 3arf

As with most consumer problems, it's important to be well informed of your rights and responsibilities when dealing with a defective vehicle. The internet is a good place to start doing your research, but the sheer number of websites and the amount of information you'll find can be overwhelming.

A good summary of the lemon law for each state, including the code for each, can be found here: http://www.ohiolemonlaw.com/state-lemon-law-summaries.htm. All the information is concise and in easy to read table format. The site also provides separate pages about RV and motorcycle inclusion.

For a closer look at a particular state take a look at www.dmv.org/automotive-law/lemon-law.php. Here you will get information about the law and what it covers for the state that you are interested in. You will also find tips and suggestions about the claims process and any details and "ohby the ways" you need to look out for.

Keep in mind that these are not government sites and you should verify the information by cross referencing the state's and/or appropriate agency's website. You might do a web search for "consumer affairs" in your state and/or county. Once there look up "lemon law" or search the directory for contact information.

Finally, the Better Business Bureau's website dedicated to the lemon law (http://lemonlaw.bbb.org/) allows you to view both general and state specific procedures, look at past court decisions when available for the state, and even file a claim online.
