From 3arf

The workplace can be described as a jungle with its variety of employees. Trying to survive among the different personalities and attitudes can be difficult. When you are forced to deal with a colleague’s bad attitude and manners every day, work can become extremely stressful. However, there are some things that you can do to help you survive your co-worker’s nasty attitude.

Examine your co-worker’s actions

Take a few minutes and examine your colleague’s actions. Ask yourself if there is a reason for their behavior. Usually there is a cause for the behavior. Your co-worker may be dealing with some difficult issues in their personal lives, and their attitude is a result of those difficult issues.

Analyze your response to them

Analyze yourresponseto your colleague. Are you overreacting? Is their behavior annoying to everyone or is it just you? Once you have evaluated your reaction to them, you can decide if your co-worker’s behavior is actually rude or if it is just your perception of the behavior.

Get a second opinion

If you have analyzed your response to your co-worker and their behavior, you can get a second opinion. See if any of your other co-workers have witnessed the rude behavior.

Discuss the situation with your colleague

Next, verbalize your concerns to your colleague. They may not even be aware of their rude behavior or the affect that it is having on you or the rest of their co-workers. Address your co-worker’s bad manners and attitude in a professional manner. Meet with the person and talk to them about their behavior. Do not argue or accuse. Simply address the behavior and try to work out a solution.

Avoidance

Tryavoidingyour toxic co-worker. Rearrange your schedule so that you have little to no contact with your rude colleague. You may even consider requesting a transfer.

Document behavior

If it doesn’t stop and you can’t avoid your co-work, began to document the rude and obnoxious behavior. Write down everything including the date of the incident, the details of the incident, and list any witnesses. You will need this documentation if you are forced to go to your boss.

Going to the boss

Go to your boss as a last resort. Be sure to have your documentation handy when and if you do.

Rude co-workers can turn a dream job into a nightmare. However, their behavior does not have to dictate your work day. Attempt to identify the cause of the behavior, talk to your colleague about it, and then take the necessary actions.
