How to Deal with Emotional Bullying at Work Preventing Workplace Bullying
Because we are all creatures that care, our emotions play a large part in how we function. We all know that a sad, emotionally bullied employee can not do the job expected of him or her. Sometimes the cup fills up and the bullied employee explodes, much to the detriment of those others who are in the environment, therefore it is essential that treatment of workplace bullying be prompt and effective. Here are some suggestions which will help to deal with this issue:
1. A letter telling of what workplace bullying is should be given to each employee. Because some employees may not be aware that workplace bullying even exists, they need to be openly informed.
2. Office or staff meetings should address this isse at least every quarter. The meetings should allow for question and answer times with experts on workplay bullying as presenters.
3. A form to report workplace bullying should be given to each employee. The form should include:
a. Name of the employee who is doing the bullying.
b. How often is it done?
c. How is the bullying done- cite examples.
d. Feelings generated by the bullying.
e. Requests for intervention or meeting with the bully with supervisor or CEO.
4. Once a workplace bully has met with his or her supervisor and the charges brought, a probationary period should be granted to see if it continues. A written contract should be signed by the bully and adequate notice of the probationary period given. If the bullying continues, the bully should be fired for going against office or company policies. The bully should also should be escorted off of the property and banned from the premises. This is to prevent the bully from returing to retaliate in any form.
For those who are the victim of bullying, they may ask that the above mentioned measures be instituted. If accepted, the workplace can be a place of great delight instead of drudgery.
