How to Choose a Teen Job
Teens nowadays are trying to enter the "job circle" earlier. The reasons for this are associated to various things starting from the common "I would like to buy myself (enter super expensive item)", to the radical but not at all uncommon "I need to help my family”.
Young people can spend months and months looking for the perfect job opportunity, only to realize that at the end it either takes too much time away from their studies or the age requirement is far from theirs.
Kids end up working for hours serving coffee or answering phone calls; it does not help that minimum wages are the standard for first jobs, and worst of all is that in most cases they don't even like the job they took.
So which exactly are the so called great jobs for teens?
Easy! It’s all about the personal situation they are dealing with at the moment. Fortunately for people in that range of age choosing the wrong job won’t be the end of the world. So the simplest way to select a great job consists of the following.
Explain to yourself why you want a job to begin with, for example:
•I want to buy something
•My family needs money
•To learn
This is truly important because if the first one stands true you only need a certain amount of money and working as an employee part time or full time will become really painful, you need something that goes at your pace, something that liberates you, not enslaves you.
You could for example sell food in public spaces like brownies, or beverages, and the good part about this is that it will be on your terms; you will be the one deciding when or where to show up, the power is yours. In the second case you need money desperately and constantly, this time it is imperative to know with certainty the amount of money you must receive at the end of the month. Why? Because when you talk about the survival of people that depend on your decisions to live, taking chances isn’t an option.
This time you will have to take a job as an employee, preferably in a place that respects your studies and brings you the most benefits, but above all you must feel comfortable with the decision, after all it will most likely take a long time before you can make another one.
Finally there's the approach in which your only interest is learning, this is without a doubt the best of all the explanations because even if it takes a while for you to find a good mentor, it will pay off in the long run, because you have better chances of keeping a life path that pleases and interests you.
But when it comes to choosing a job always remember that time is limited, and that you choose the memories you want to remember ahead, in the end regardless of any situation the best job for a young teen like yourself is and always will be the one you desire the most.
