As with any job title, applying for a job as a delivery driver has its own natural science for success. There a few ways to prepare and gain the advantage before you even fill out your application. There are multiple delivery jobs that can be both lucrative and rewarding if you do not mind being in your car for most of your shift. Such jobs may include, food delivery, flowers, court-ordered documents server, telegram, postal, independent postal and private specialty stores. Proper preparation for the occupation and field which are applying or better your chances of success.
Know your area
It would not hurt to spend a few hours studying the roads in which you will undoubtedly be driving if you are hired. Preliminary knowledge of the roads around your place of work will not only impress the future employer, it will also make you a more effective delivery driver from day one. This is an admirable asset to possess and can make you more valuable to a potential employer.
Know your field
This one is entirely dependent on which field, and what goods you will be delivering, in either case it would not hurt to have some general knowledge ahead of time what it is you will be providing a delivery service for. In many cases the expertise of knowledge for the delivery of your items is a necessity to be hired, such as in the case of electronics or perhaps a technical field of some sort where you may be asked specific questions upon delivery.
Clean yourself up
This may not seem like a necessity and for many delivery jobs it is not. Prepare for your interview in general is a good idea to keep a clean well kept persona. If hired as the delivery person you will be the last face of the company before their customer receives the product. It is important that the last is not disheveled or messy.
Have a clean driving record
This one should be a no-brainer however, if you do not have a clean driving record it is likely you will not get hired. For most delivery jobs a perfect record, or at least close to it is necessary. Resolve any outstanding balances or fixable points on your driving record before applying. Your record will undoubtedly be checked and it is important that it looks as clean as it can.
Be confident in your knowledge
Whether you spent a few hours or a few weeks studying the material at hand regarding both the items you will be delivering, and the area in which you will be responsible. Be sure to exude the type of confidence that suggests you have had such knowledge for years.
