How often do i Check my Oil Level

From 3arf

It is true that checking your oil is vital, but how often should it be checked? Well in the past it was checked by service men at many gas stations. That means every time you filled up with gas, your oil and other vital engine components were checked. Although it is true that vehicles are much more reliable today than they were in the past, The oil should still be checked roughly every 1000 miles or about 3 times before you change your oil if you go by the 3000 mile interval. Checking often can prolong any the engine for a longer amount of time. Thus making your simple oil checks vital in maintaining your car for an acceptable length of time. Its not hard to check your oil, just read the manual or purchase the Factory service manual, or you could even but the appropriate Haynes or Chilton manual for you vehicle. Often times they provide picture guides and step by step instructions for many procedures, including the oil check. By checking your oil often you will be able to check it much faster and consistently because it will become second nature.

Lets take this for example. Jack and Betty both bought a brand new ford focus from the dealer. They both took their cars to the dealer to get serviced at the appropriate intervals. Betty was instructed to check her oil levels every thousand Miles, where as Jack was never instructed to check his oil. Both cars made it to 12,000 miles. The vehicles had defective oil coolers and were leaking considerable amounts of oil, Betty noticed that at 13,000 miles her oil was about a quart low. She made a call to the dealer and brought in her car to be checked, and they found the problem of course, the oil cooler. Jacks car made it to 13,000 miles and also ad the same troubles with the oil cooler. But he didn't check his oil until e brought in his car to be serviced at 15,000 miles. The dealer saw that the oil was low and went about to figure out why. They found the leaking oil cooler, and also noticed that there were metal shavings inside the oil pan. The shavings were a result from being over a quart low in oil for 2,500 miles. This was bad news to jack because warranty would have covered the oil cooler, but since proper maintenance such as the oil level was not checked. The dealer made it apparent that they would not cover the damages made to the motor.

The conclusion is that Betty's car was fixed and resumed just like normal, Jack had to pay for many damages to his car, If he didn't the motor surely would not have lasted as long as Betty's car. From then on Jack checked his oil every thousand miles.
