How Volunteering can help you Land a Job

From 3arf

Society really would come to a standstill without volunteers.Volunteersare the backbone of society. They provide much needed cover when manpower is short and their contribution is vital for charities up and down the land.  So, is it any wonder that if one is applying for a job, volunteerwork should feature highly on your list? Why should this be the case?  After all there is no monetary gain when volunteering your services. Yes, there could be the contributory cost of travel fare, but that is about it.  However, lack of a wage should not put someone off from volunteering. Far from it. One could see this as a wonderful opportunity to open up the door to paid work, eventually. There are countless employment opportunities to be had within the volunteer sector. Granted, there is a worldwide recession at the moment, and paid work is very hard too come by. In fact there are more people seeking employment than there has ever been in the recent past.Companies are closing, or being wound up, they are also cutting their costs and people are being left on the scrapheap. But despite all of this, during these dark times of recession, it does not have to be this way for you. Despite the economic downturn there is plenty of unpaid work to be done - and plenty still to do.So anyone who has listed volunteering within their C.V when applying for paid work, will stand out from the crowd. This will show any manager that you have the necessary motivation - and a  'get-up-and-go' factor.  It also shows that you are willing to open doors - despite the lack of financial reward. These are the necessary attributes that will enhance any company or business.  However, sometimes, it does not always boil down to who has the better qualifications. It is all about attitude. Attitude counts for a lot  A positive mental attitude and a single, iron-willed desire and determination to 'get the job done' can often see you gain that paid employment that you are after. This is where the volunteer section can, and does come in very handy indeed, in order to gain the necessary criteria and experience one needs. However, this does not mean that a person has to be a pushover when applying for voluntary work, far from it. Just because people are willing to give of their time for free it does not mean that in the long, run, they do not want paid work. Of course they do, everyone would love to be paid a fair wage for a fair day's work. The point being is this, that voluntary work will pay dividends for you in the future.  And, it is something that has to be considered seriously, in this current economic downturn. You could hear of a full time paid position in the work you are already voluntary employed in. Of course, because you have already received experience within that employment, you could be first to put your name down and apply for the position. That is the bonus of voluntary work, that one will always hear on the grapevine about a  paid position suddenly becoming open. Now would be the best chance to grab it and apply.  Voluntary work can bring on so many positives.  It is all about gaining experience, making new friends, helping people in your capacity as a volunteer.  And always keeping your ear to the grapevine, by being aware of any paid position that becomes open. This could be due to someone leaving, or personal reasons.  Whatever the cause one must always be ready for when the door opens to paid employment. And, furthermore, volunteer work does not only consist of work at home, but working abroad too, overseas. If one has a skill, that they would like to use, whatever that may be, then consider working overseas, in a country that may need that particular skill you have. Again, this will show any potential employer that you have the necessary criteria that would be a bonus to any business/company.So, with that in mind, why not begin now. At the beginning of this article are links that will provide  you, the reader, with available volunteer work at present.  Why not give them a go?  After all, you will never know, anyone looking for work could do no worse then try volunteering. Let it never be said that volunteers do not help society as a whole. If anything, they enhance society with their 'get-up-and-go attitude, and their all-giving nature. Indeed, society really would come to a grinding halt without volunteers, around the world, doing their 'bit' to make society better for others.
