How Career Counselling is Effective

From 3arf

Career counselors can help you with a number of issues. Their work is to provide knowledge about careers. This includes subjects in school, college courses, institutions and industries. Thus, they can help you even if you are in school. They can definitely help you if you are unsure about which career to pick. Since all kinds of counseling are associated with psychology, they can help you to understand which careers suit your personality, lifestyle and interest best. So, if you are not sure if something you do passionately can be a viable career, they are the ones to go to. Even if you have chosen your career destination, they can give you ideas on following your path and reaching it.

Some scenarios where you need them:

• You are unaware of the eligibility of a course or profession.

• You have a degree or have passed a course but you don't know which are the professional opportunities associated with it.

• You want to know about the lifestyle or work environment of a particular occupation.

• You are considering studying abroad and want to know about International universities, eligibility, departments in your own country which can help you go abroad and whether they are genuine or not.

• You know about educational and occupational requirements but you want to know if social work, your personality, your hobbies etc. will be considered in the course or job you are eying.

There are cases when you may not need them even if you are unsure about which field is yours. One reason could be that you are pigheaded or know-it-all and don't take advice from anyone. You also don't need them if you are only temporarily unhappy with your career. This is very important. Don't rush a career change. Though they might be able to help with this too. They might tell you a better route to your career if it's going downhill.

Keep these in mind if you visit them:

Only gather knowledge, don't choose solely based on their advice. They can only judge you based on what you have tell them and your body language at the time of your visiting. Don't make a hasty decision. Weigh your pros and cons, think carefully, try to put the information to best use. Imagine if you could live the lifestyle of the profession they tell you about. They can be very helpful if you keep a stable head. Also, not all career counselors are the same. If one cannot help you, find another.
