Homemade Thanksgiving Table Decorations

From 3arf

Everyone loves for their tables to look beautiful for the holidays and it can be so easy to get creative and make you own unique table decorations for Thanksgiving. You do not have to be an expert or a pro to create your own decorations for your Thanksgiving table. You also do not have to spend a lot of money. There are many items that you can get at your local dollar store to help create a centerpiece that you will love.

If you like the traditional look of the cornucopia, stick with that and feel free to spice it up a bit. You can buy a wicker type cornucopia and fill it with miniature pumpkins and gourds or you can fill it with ears of Indian corn. Place some ribbon in a fall print on it and you have a new centerpiece that you have created for yourself.

For a more elegant look, use a glass platter and place some fall colored leaves on it. The leaves may be from your own yard. Place the miniature pumpkins and gourds on top of the leaves. Take some smaller type ribbon in festive fall colors and make small bows that you can hot glue on the miniature pumpkins and gourds. You can also place some silk flowers in fall colors around the tray and in between your gourds.

Fresh flowers always make a lovely centerpiece. Head to your local market and pick you up a bouquet in fall colors. Mums work great! Also, buy yourself a pumpkin. Pick your pumpkin size according to the size of the table that you will be placing it on. Cut out the top just like you were preparing to carve it and clean out the inside. Fill the pumpkin with water and place your bouquet inside the pumpkin. Buy some ribbon that goes well with the color of the bouquet that you selected. Place a strip of ribbon around the pumpkin’s center using hot glue and make a bow to hot glue onto the ribbon.

Another idea for using the pumpkin would be to remove the top and clean out the inside. Keep the top because you’re going to put it back on your pumpkin. After you have it cleaned out use a dowel rod with a pointed end to poke holes in the pumpkin all round the upper part of the pumpkin where you have removed the top. Do not have too much space in between the holes. Place water in the pumpkin and poke your fresh flowers in the holes that you made with the dowel rod. Again, place a ribbon around your pumpkin and put a bow on top of the ribbon.

If you just want to keep it simple take your pumpkin and decorate it with fall colored ribbon. You can run it around the center of the pumpkin and put a bow on it and also place a bow on the stem. You may want to use markers or paints to decorate your pumpkin. You could try cutting letters out of masking tape and placing them on the pumpkin to spell out Happy Thanksgiving or Be Thankful. Once you have applied the letters to the pumpkin, spray paint your pumpkin with another fall color other than orange. When the paint dries remove the masking tape letters and your saying will appear on your pumpkin. Add a little ribbon and you have a beautiful and creative centerpiece for your table.

These are only a few ideas that you can try. You may get more ideas from shopping your local dollar store. The selection of fall ribbon and embellishments they have are usually very plentiful. They even have a great selection of embellishments you may want to use in creating your Thanksgiving table centerpiece.
