It's time for the holidays again but you can't decide on which cards you want to send out to those on your list. Making your own holiday cards is simple and fun. It cuts down on the time you have to spend looking around the stores for individual cards for everyone since you can make them at home. What do you need to make your own holiday cards?
The first thing you are going to need is a list of all the people that you are sending holiday cards to so that you will know how many you are making. This will also help you to make the decision of whether or not to make them all the same or make each one different. When you order you usually get to choose one design for a pack of cards and that's it even when you had a picture made to put on the cards.
A computer with printer and a card program for smaller children to make it easier for them. A digital camera to get a personalized picture for them and some colored card stock to print them out on. Photo paper may or may not be needed depending on the card type you are making. Your computer can even help you to determine the folding design of your card and whether or not you want it to be multi-folding for the occasion.
You take your digital camera and set up a background for you pictures. You can customize them for the family that each card is going to. When you choose your background you can use things you have around the house for them. Blankets with colorful patterns, your fireplace with all the Christmas decorations or whatever holiday it is you're celebrating can be used with little to no effort on your part.
You can then transfer your pictures to your computer and utilize your program for card making to come up with various design ideas for your card. You will be able to see how each picture looks and what effects can be used with it to make it look the way you want.
The writing on the card can be done with the graphics from the program and you can see it all on your computer screen. The colored cardstock can be used to provide a background for the photos; you may choose to print pictures on photo paper and glue them to the cardstock background or print them directly on the cardstock for a more contrasted effect.
Once you have designed your card all that has to be done is to print and fold so you can mail it off to those on your list for this holiday season. The imagination is the only thing that limits you when you make your own holiday cards; they're yours so you can do anything that you want to with them and add any embellishments you want to achieve the look that you desire.
