Typically at least a week in advance signs are posted to let local travelers know what it planned so they reroute and adjust schedules. Often they even give estimated times of delay.Local news is a big part and a great option for learning about construction. Tune the radio to local stations and listen for announcements. Even if you are visiting an area, watch the morning news in the hotel room and get a handle on what may be happening in the area. It is a big part of the broadcasting responsibility to keep the public aware.The Department of Transportation updates web sites with pertinent information. Check the sites and map out the road with the least amount of obstacles. Be sure to note the details.In the United States the number to dial on your cell phone is511. It will give you not only road construction information, but weather conditions and event traffic. Some areas keep the information more up to date than others, but it is certainly a viable option to try.It’s a term that is often heard now, “We’ve got an app for that”. With the ability to use a smart phone and GPS tech savvy drivers has 100’s of choices.  It should be fairly easy to find an option that is user friendly and works in the area.Worst case scenario, you can not avoid the construction. You simply have to go through it. Here are some friendly reminders. You can not go any faster than the car in front of you, be patient. Honking rarely helps the situation. There will always be rude drivers who try and pass on the shoulder and do anything to maneuver ahead, don’t  be one of those. Don't find with those rude people. Sing louder and laugh longer.
