Flower Trends for Winter Weddings 20102011
Winter weddings in 2010 are full of new trends in attire, jewelry, and decoration. Flowers are no exception. For the first time, there are distinct trends for every style.
For weddings with a vintage or romantic style, winter whites are all the rage. Mixing bright white, cream, and ivory tones, the subtle variances in shade offer a beautiful accent to the bridal attire, as well as the snow outside. Combinations of roses, lilies, and orchids are used for creating a soft and delicate texture, accented by bridal lace and satin. Bouquets can be wrapped with real or fake pearl strands for an elegant accent. Arranging these flowers loosely, in bouquets, decor, and centerpieces, enough to close up any gaps between eachother, is the most popular and flattering way to arrange them.
When going for a classic winter style, this year's biggest trend is a modern take on the classic red rose. Large spherical bouquets and centerpieces are the latest trend. Straightcut, visible stems add the natural look to the arrangements. The roses are grouped together tightly, but not enough to squish the petals. One way brides are sprucing up this look is by adding different types of flowers that are the same red tone. Calla lilies, anemonies, orchids, and amaryllis are some of the most popular winter flowers for this look.
Modern brides are going for bold looks. Brides are choosing large calla lilies, and dying them rich, jewel tone colors. Instead of a full bouquet bridal party members carry a small group of three, or even singles, of the oversized flowers. Other modern wedding flowers that are very popular this year are hyacinths, which can naturally come in beautiful winter colors, like purple. Crystals and rhinestones can accent these simple bouquets if brides wish to have something a little less simple, and can provide centerpieces with an over-the-top, contemporary look.
Holiday brides once again are opting for the Christmas favorite, poinsettias. Things are a bit different this winter, however, as the trend is to create a winter wonderland look using white poinsettias, instead of the more common red ones. It is a great bridal take on the holiday symbol, giving a wedding the holiday feel, but at the same time, making it more of a wedding flower as well. Poinsettias can be put in large groups for a dramatic effect, or in singles for a subtle Christmas feel. Keeping flowers separate, other flowers that mesh well with poinsettias are calla lillies and orchids.
No matter the style, this year's winter weddings are guaranteed to be spectacular with any of these beautiful flowers. The trends this year allow a bit of something for anyone, that the couple and the guests are sure to find breathtaking. The most important thing is to find a florist who knows your style and has experience creating the look you are going for.
