Finding Entry Level Accounting Jobs
New accountants have a better chance of being hired than almost any other recent graduate aside from those in the nursing field. Almost every company large and small requires the services of an accountant. It is not only time consuming but difficult for an individual without an accounting degree or at the very least a strong math background and great financial software to run a company without the services of an accountant.
Companies need accountants to do taxes, audits, payroll, financial analysis and money management. While all accountants are educated in all areas of accounting some will go on to specialize in specific areas. This is also an added benefit for the accountant and will make getting an entry level job easier.
When searching for a job use your strong points if you excelled in general payroll taxes, auditing, analysis or money management then you would obviously apply for a job that is focused on that particular area of accounting. The idea of an entry level job is to get your foot in the door of a company and work your way up the ladder.
An added benefit that you will be thankful for in the future after accepting an entry level accounting position is the experience you gain. In the accounting profession you must pay your dues so to speak and after a few years of experience you will be able to broaden your horizons and look at better positions such as working for the IRS as a tax auditor, join a management team, get in to internal auditing or financial management.
With a few more years of experience under your belt your horizons broaden even wider and you can feel confident accepting a position as a credit analysis, treasury operations, financial planner or even starting your own full service accounting practice.
You have the degree, you put in all the long hours studying; accepting a entry level position is the ideal way to go when you're just starting out. Get some experience and "on the job" training then decide what you want to do after a few years.
The most important thing you can do for yourself when looking for a job as an accountant is to remember you have no experience and if an employer is willing to hire you for an entry level position even though you may feel you are beyond that, they are not only offering you a paycheck but the opportunity to build your resume and move on to bigger and better jobs.
You'll be glad you took that job in the payroll department when you are offered a nice package at a huge company a few years down the road!
