Families have fun playing Thanksgiving games

From 3arf

There are dozens of board games, Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit, Risk, and countless others, that would accommodate a large group of players. Finding a game that is suitable for a wide range of ages is more difficult. Here are some possible options for entertaining your family this Thanksgiving:

There are a number of games that can be played with dominoes, including Chicken Foot and Mexican Train. Chicken Foot is less complicated than Mexican Train and is well-suited for "children" from ages 5 to 95 or older. All you have to do is to be able to match dominoes with the same number of dots and follow a few simple rules. The object of the game is to get rid of all of your dominoes, and any time a "double" is played, others must play the a domino with the same number of dots until three dominoes have been placed in a "chicken foot" pattern.

Mexican Train is similar; however, there are twists and turns involving a toy train and calls that must be issued before certain plays are made. It is probably better suited to older children and adults, but this is still a really fun game.

If you have never played Wahoo, you've missed a treat. This game is limited to four players per board, but several boards could be purchased to accommodate more than one game at a time. Each player has a set of colored marbles, and a roll of the dice determines how the marbles advance on the board, with the object being to get all marbles to the center of the board. There are "bumps" and twists to this game, and it will be a family favorite.

If the weather is right and the yard and family are both large, a game of tag football or kickball might be in order to work off the turkey dinner. Kickball is better for small children, and family members would need to know in advance to come dressed casually for outdoor play.

You might have fond memories of hours spent with family playing Hearts and Spades and something called "Poot on Your Neighbor."  Canasta is another game to while away hours playing. Card games are endless and there is bound to be one that is suitable for your family and destined to become a holiday tradition.

This is a great game to play with a group of twelve people or more in multiples of four. All that is needed is three dice per table of four. The object of Bunco is to roll sixes; a roll of three sixes is aBunco.

Another great activity for families to enjoy at Thanksgiving is looking at old family photos. Get out all of your best pictures of Grandma and Grandpa and the gang, gather around the table, and share some memories. After all, Thanksgiving is about families coming together to share fun, food, fellowship, and memories. Playing games and enjoying photographs may even help create a few new traditions and memories to share at future holiday events.
