FBI Agent Requirements
So, you want to go into law enforcement, but not the Police or military. You want something more romantic, more adventurous and exciting. You want to become a spy and work for the FBI, or maybe go international and work for the CIA. There is always the National Security Agency and the English have the MI5 and European Interpol. All hire people of all nationalities and work "undercover", behind the scenes. What do you need to do?
You could start by watching all the spy movies you can get. Not just the spy who loved me or all those exciting James Bond movies, which shows you all the gadgets and how they work, plus the romance involved in spying, but the "Get Smart" shows. Control may not be the FBI, but it is certainly an investigative unit and has lots of gadgets, and everything goes wrong, until the end! It is probably more true to life than Bond!
Tired of watching movies? Time to start reading! Reading is important for the FBI, and not just spy novels. Agents require a wide vocabulary and an ability to read well, quickly, and discreetly. FBI and other spies need to be able to look at a document and determine if it is pertinent to the case, which means understanding words of more than one syllable, Read quickly because you may not have time and discreetly as the paper may be on a desk of a person you are meeting with, and upside down.
It may also be in a foreign language, so FBI agents generally speak at least two languages. Most FBI agents speak either French or Spanish as well as English. The FBI works in cases across state lines, and down south may need to communicate with or understand Cubans, Mexicans and South Americans that all speak Spanish, though with some odd accents. Canada is also a dual language country, French and English. With NAFTA, understanding these languages becomes essential when doing investigations.
Computer skills are also helpful for becoming and FBI agent. Not only how to hack into computers and attach spy-ware, but also how to use them for collating and processing data. Accounting, code breaking and even just basic communication is often done with computers. All these this need to be understood and accessible to an FBI agent!
Reading, writing, computer skills, accounting, foreign languages? To become an FBI agent you need to be versatile and possess a wide range of skills, you never know what they may require. Learn as much as possible, and then get lucky!
