Exploring Mens Fascination with Cars

From 3arf

A man's fascination with cars, trucks, heavy machinery, and tools all stem from the influence of older and wiser men, such as fathers, uncles, and grandfathers. Since the invention of the vehicle, men have taken interest in the "art" of mechanics. A young boy sees his father tinkering with his truck and takes interest. A teenager sees all his friends staring at their car engines and examining their fuse boxes for shorts, and does the same. Men loving cars is a learned trait from other men. It's the same notion that women learn to love makeovers, fashion, and an obsession with shoes... These women learned it as a trait. Go to the deep jungles of Africa and you will find neither of these traits apply because these inventions do not exist to those people. It could be argued that, at least in the United States, a man's fascination with cars is a result of trying to impress females. Females in turn, try to impress males with their hair and fashion. No scientific study correlates this view, but this theory does hold some ground.Another reason men take such interest in vehicles is a perceived need to create something powerful. When a man installs a new part on his car, he gets dirty, and when the job is done he feels a great since of accomplishment. Whether it is changing the alternator or installing a cold-air intake, the satisfaction of upgrading or repairing a vehicle seems to make a man feel useful.Psychologically, men want to feel useful. Women want to feel cherished. These traits appear to be innate from development. Specific use of these traits can be applied to working on vehicles for men, or a fashion sense for women. These are learned behaviors that stem from inherent traits in human genetics. You do not have to be a man to love to hear the roar of the engine or the sound of the transmission as it shifts from gear to gear. American society has merely taught men from generation to generation that working and tinkering with cars is a man's hobby. As men, we are not born car lovers, but we are born with a mind that wants to understand how things work. Of course, this can be true for women as well. There is no fine line in our DNA that says every man is a car fanatic and every woman just wants to have an impressive wardrobe.A man's love for cars is just an example of his thirst for understanding. Men tend to also enjoy playing with a tool workbench. A man's perceived fascination with anything that is useful as a tool is an ode to his inborn yearning to understand the logic and solving of problems. Plus, it also seems innate in men that moving fast is a thrill and adrenaline rush that is easily satisfied with the amazing invention of the automobile.
