Electric Vehicles – No

From 3arf

A fully electric vehicle is like robbing Peter to pay Paul. Mostly because you are taking the need for one fossil fuel and placing it on another. What we really need to do is find a way to eliminate the need for fossil fuels in order to answer the need to lower energy costs. It's simple supply and demand. The more we demand something that we know we don't have an endless supply of, the people that control the supply can demand whatever price they want for it. This is how a product that comes from the planet ready to be refined can be sold for $70-$80 per barrel or more.

Since we still don't have the technology to fully exploit solar energy or hydrogen or bio fuels we cannot eliminate the massive energy output required to efficiently operate a vehicle. Most of our nations electric power is generated by coal which is a fossil fuel and has a limited supply therefore the same thing that happened with the oil companies will happen with the coal company owners. They will see an increasing demand and raise their prices to suit and we as the consumers will have no choice but to pay it.

The solution at this point in time to higher fuel prices is limited to the technology of our time and our social acceptance to lifestyle change. Until we as people are willing to accept that the almighty dollar doesn't control our lives and we just let it control us is when we are ready to take the next step toward energy independence. The next step is that we as people need to pool our resources and force the oil companies to look into more efficient ways to use this fuel that we treasure so much and to stop raising the prices the more we demand.  We have technology to reduce the need for fossil fuels and some of it is out on the market so we need to use supply and demand to our favor and demand these technologies be implemented on our vehicles as soon as possible. Then and only then will gas prices go down without another type of fossil fuel price going up. We wont be cutting off our nose to spite our faces and we may offset the chain reaction of global warming.

So are electric cars the solution. Not yet. But in order for it to be we need to take the steps towards it.
