Economy Triumph 125cc 2300cc Motorbike Motorcycle

It goes without saying that as cubic capacity of the motorcycle engine increases then the gas mileage will decrease. There are variables that also need to be taken into account though. These are the number of cylinders, whether the engine is 2 or 4 stroke, cylinder size and also the weight of both the motorcycle and also the weight of the rider or riders. Whether the bike relies on carburretors or fuel injection can affect things too.The way the motorbike is ridden will also have a direct result on fuel consumption.

But in this case we shall just look at the motorcycle itself without the added complications of riders and the way it is being ridden. To compare different motorcycles one should first look at the manufacturers data for the urban, extra urban cycles and the expected fuel comsumption.

A small capacity machine of around 125cc should give the best fuel consumption as the engine is large enough to pull the bike up hills, a 50cc machine would struggle and increase the fuel consumption. The large capacity machines save fuel by having more gears usually than the small bikes allowing them to cruise at high speed with low revs. Fuel injetion is normally more economical than a carboretted bike but it depends on how many carbs the bike has. Four carbs will use more fuel than one carb feeding a multi cylinder bike.

There are now motorbikes available that run on diesel fuel which may give better gas mileage than a similar petrol driven model. An example of this would be the Royal Enfield diesel motorbike utilising a diesel water pump engine. It may be slow but is economical.

Taking all factors into consideration the best all rounder would be a mid sized 600cc capacity motorbike used for long distance work so the bike can be kept at the optimum engine speed for maximum mileage per tank of petrol. These have a good range to the tank. The small 125cc bikes running a 4 stroke fuel injected engine should give you the best mileage but the tanks are small on these. Triumph make a 2300cc 3 cylinder engine that is more economical than a smaller capacity machine.

There is no one best bike as the bike you require may not be the best for economy, you would not want to use a small capacity bike for long distances as they are slow and not comfortable. It is personal preference that will dictate the best bike for you but economy is an important factor to take into consideration.
