Eccentric Cubicle by Kaden Harris
I am a pretty big fun of the somewhat insane reading that some of the world's strangest minds have to offer, however, I really wasn't completely ready for what I would find in Eccentric Cubicle by Kaden Harris. When I first saw the book at Borders, I thought that the concept sounded pretty interesting, but I didn't have the time to really look into it. I wrote down the name of the book and did a little more research and eventually purchased it online. One thing that I truly love is when people are able to take something so simple and actually turn it into something else that is either highly amusing or at least useful in some manner. This book is exactly that. Kaden finds a way to turn a lot of virtual crap into a great deal of interesting projects that are sure to entertain yourself in the building process and your coworkers in the results. While I know that I definitely can't replicate any of the projects with horribly pathetic building abilities, I do take a lot of pleasure in knowing that there are people that can craft a lot of these concepts.About the BookEccentric Cubicle is nothing more than a do it yourself guide for anyone that works in an office setting. The book essentially teaches every office drone how to build the perfect office tools in order to enhance their job or at the very least just make it that much more entertaining. The strange thing about the book is that rather than having ideas that would actually create items that you could actually use in the workplace, it goes the opposite direction. The author seems to purposely come up with ideas for projects that are possibly some of the most useless of projects for the workplace. The great thing is that the projects are real, with real directions that you can use to make really useless items. One of the projects that I thought to be the most interesting was the Desktop Guillotine. I'm not really sure if that is necessarily the safest of creations that you could place in your office, but it definitely will get the attention of your subordinates if one of them comes running out missing fingers and crying.Another one of the really interesting items in the book is the desktop catapult. I thought it was funny just thinking about the applications for these items. I could see myself launching note pads across the room at my coworkers as they pass by my door.Essentially the book is filled with pictures and instructions on how to create a variety of different items. If you love do it yourself projects and you want to spiff up your office space, this may be the way to go about doing it. Just keep in mind that most of the items in the book are incredibly unusual and for the most part serve no real purpose.Final ThoughtsThe book is very well written, even though the humor is somewhat dry and exhausting. The only part of the book that is really interesting would be the actual concepts themselves. I love some of the ideas throughout the book and while I don't ever plan on attempting to construct any of the items in the book, I do think that they could be created with the instructions and someone that has a good bit of determination. If nothing else, the book is a very funny look at what you can do if you are truly bored with your office.
