You may make more than what you would at a rummage sale but you need to consider the risks.If a buyer disputes something on ebay or paypal then it's up to the seller to prove they held up their end of the bargain. The buyer can request a full refund from PayPal and return the item to you damaged or send you something else entirely like their garbage. If the buyer files a SNAD case you will lose your money. You may even lose the item you sold them.If the buyer paid with a credit card then you will be end up paying chargeback fees on top of losing any money you've already lost. PayPal will decide whether or not to protect you as a seller. The tendency is to protect the buyer in favor of the seller.Also in using PayPal there is an implied warranty. The buyer has 45 days to make a claim against your product and request a full refund. Ebay forces you to warranty the item up to 90 days with an implied warranty. Unfortunately even when you state there is no refunds or returns you are still held accountable.There are often many sales that result in bidders who refuse to pay. You end up losing money if the bidder does not pay. You can always relist the item or do a second chance offer but you still end up losing time and money on the deal.If you accept checks or money orders you open yourself up to a whole new set up problems, fraudulent payments. There are numerous check and money order scams circulating out there. Even with PayPal the buyer could be a scam artist with a fake account. You'll think they've paid you and find out after you've shipped the item that there is no money in the account.If you ship the package and it is lost or stolen while in transit then you become liable to refund the money. If you insure the package and it is lost or stolen the insurance will not pay for the package. Your buyer can claim they never got the package.Selling fees are costly. You can end up paying fees to ebay and PayPal that cost you as much as you made on the item. Your time is worth something and you need to keep that in mind when listing items on ebay.
