From 3arf

It is a fact that most moms would prefer staying at home with their children. Psychologists have theorized that many persons do not like to work. Another fact is that most persons like to spend money, whether it is their own or not. To spend money, one has to be earning money to prevent problems with the law.

A mother may have to make a decision about working outside the home for a variety of reasons. She may have to take a full-time job or a part-time one. Whichever decision she makes, there will be drawbacks to deal with.

Drawbacks that affect the family

For mom's own peace of mind she would prefer to stay at home to oversee the running of her home. She may prefer to use the money spent to pay a baby sitter to conduct repairs on her home or simply just to purchase good quality food. Mom may also prefer to be at home to observe a child's milestones and to take care of ill children.

Drawbacks to part time jobs are many and include getting an unreliable baby-sitter or one that abuses children.

The time spent on the road traveling could be better spent taking care of household chores.

The question that needs to be asked is, " Is working mandatory?" as in the case of a single mom who has to provide for herself and child or children.

If it is mandatory then she might  have to opt for whatever she can get. This makes working a chore and an unpleasant task. She may then experience helplessness and hopelessness . Mom will end up being depressed. She may then drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes , take drugs, or commit suicide.

Psychologists know that one of the worst things that can happen to a person is to be working in a job that one dislikes and to make it worse one is bound to the job only to buy food and pay bills.

It becomes even worse when one cannot achieve anything tangible for the wages provided by the job. Persons love to see and own material things that are a result of their labor.

If she gets low wages she may have to get two part-time jobs. The two jobs coupled with the traveling, will keep her away from home for long periods. Children will be left unattended with no guidance. They are therefore at risk of becoming delinquents and falling into trouble. In addition to this there might not be anyone at home to help with homework. Their general safety also has to be considered.

Another question is, " Is this part time job for mom a supplement to her husband's wages?" that is, to assist with bills and clothing and to prevent bills from accumulating. If this is so, this decision should not be made without weighing the pros and cons. Being away from home can create a whole new set of problems.

Mom will not have enough time for her children and her husband. She may become irritable as she may be tired.

She will always be tired and be unable to complete successfully all her chores and fulfill social obligations.

Mom may suffer from resentment, at having to work, this could later lead to family arguments.

Baby and/or children could suffer from separation anxiety, cry a lot , refuse meals and become ill.

Mom may have to go to work too soon after baby is born and this will cause her to stop breast-feeding the baby at an early age. Poor nurturing will lead to mental health problems in later life.

lntroducing the bottle feeds may lead to intestinal problems with the baby as feeding utensils are not sterilized.

If mom is well-educated, has a skill or profession she may be able to work a few hours per week and receive a good remuneration which will help to stabilize the family's financial situation. She may think it is worth it .
