Don’t Impressit is better to Manage your Boss
I feel the problem with this title is that it appears we are begging for recognition from the person considered a superior because of a job title. To me, when we try to impress whether it is a boss, our children or our lover we more often than not depress or repress. We need not say anything our body and tone of voice makes our agenda a dead giveaway. Please keep in mind that words are only 7 percent of a message while voice is 38 percent and body language 55 percent.
In this essay. I ask rather than impressing a boss is that we find a way to barter mange them as a strategy for if not the fast track an opportunity for promotion consideration. Here are three suggestions:
1) Don't be self serving- Please do not confuse this statement to mean we are selfless or a doormat. it means here to look beyondour immediate agenda ( and no agenda is ever hidden well ) and work form the premise that your boss's world in the workplace is broader as a result of a higher place in the hierarchy. When your actions meet this suggestion, you are a better team player seeking organization and not personal results.
2) Its about temperament- The Golden Rule here states that we treat others as we wish to be treated. This advice has value. With bosses, however, consider the Platinum Rule which asks us to treat bosses as they want to be treated. Make your actions fit their temperament. Do they want suggestions in writing or in person? What is their attitude about email? Is the boss a quick decision maker or methodical in approach? Knowing what makes your boss tick is a way to connect requiring the diagnostic skill of observing without judgment prior to an action strategy.
3) Think like a boss- If you are a boss and would like to be a boss on day, what would you cherish as a priority to daily peace of mind? When I worked for Merrill Lynch, a top priority for me was not to get flack or pressure form my boss. So, here's the challenge: what can you do to keep your bosses boss off your bosses back? The best way I've observed is to be a problem solver. Bosses generally abhor employees coming to their office with problems that employees can handle. This action is part of the solution. As a alternative, be part of the solution.
Hopefully, one of these suggestions will serve as a productive way to better manage your boss which can ultimately lead to a positive impression and a more successful career!
