Doctors Dignity Repect Compassion

Qualities associated with being a good doctor are kindness, compassion and empathy. Doctors need to display professionalism at all times and they have a responsibility to their patients. Doctors need to be approachable but at the same time they need to be the boss and be able to delegate  to the other health care professionals like nurses and allied health care staff.

Communication is very important in the medical world. Doctors who work in the clinical environment spend long hours working with people and they need to be able to listen as well as get down to the level of their patients to ensure that they are receiving the best quality treatment.

Doctors study for a number of years and in the process make many sacrifices. One needs to have a passion for medicine, serving people and  have a strong interest in the dynamics of the human body in order to succeed. Doctors work long hours once qualified so if they choose medicine as a career for all the right reasons and not just  for the compensation benefits then they will feel content at the end of the day.The health care and medical scene in many countries is changing and doctors need to update their skills regularly so that they learn new techniques and can provide patients with the best possible medical treatment. Doctors need to be aware that their career may clash with their personal lives as they have to work many long and odd hours so they must be totally dedicated to serving mankind to the best of their ability. Doctors need to be unselfish and put their patients needs ahead of their own.

Doctors need to display high levels of compassion and  a desire to serve mankind. The patient's well-being should be the first priority for a doctor and he/she should make ethical decisions in treatment and monitoring of the patient. Doctors should not treat patients for their own benefit but try and see to it that their work serves purpose for the greater good of mankind and healing.

Doctors should be healers first and businessmen later. They should never refuse patients and if confronted with an emergency situation even when they are not on duty,  they should never hesitate to lend a helping hand.

Doctors are the hierarchy of the medical profession but should try and update their skills on a regular basis. Senior doctors should become mentors to junior doctors like interns and always be free to offer a helping hand and place these younger doctors on the right path by showing them that patients are human beings, and need to be treated with dignity and respect.Doctors can have rewarding careers if they develop their human values like compassion, serving and empathy and at the same time uphold ethical practises that are deemed 'kosher ' in the medical world.
