Diesels what you need to know
For those of you like me who love the gas guzzlers you might want to listen up. If your like me(one of those crazy people who owns a diesel) your trying to crank the best fuel milage out of your trucks. If your looking for a fuel efficient diesel truck you must be out of your mind. With todays GM diesels having the 6.6 V8 Duramax, Dodge with their 6.7 V8 Cummins, or Ford's 6.4 or 7.3 V8 Powerstroke the best fuel mileage you'll get is maybe 14 to 16 miles per gallon. The only way you can think about getting any fuel mileage is to get Dodge's 5.9 V6 Diesel. This engine is not that much shorter on horsepower or torque than that of the bigger V8s.Actually you could get a little better torque with a V6 than the V8. Plus you would get better fuel mileage, but because you usually have to special order the 5.9, there are a few things you can do to improve fuel milage. Take your truck to a performance shop to get a superchip programer, and a larger turbo and other performance parts to make the truck run as wide open as possible. So if you are looking for a quiet, car like diesel you will want to look at buying a GM diesel. The Duramax series is made to be quiet and as EPA efficient as possible. This diesel usually has a high gear ratio which makes it more of a road truck than a work horse. GM's trucks are also good for those of you who can not drive manual transmission because GM tries not to put manual transmissions in their trucks. On the other hand Dodge is made to be a workhorse. Their rugged Cummins diesel engine will almost last forever as long as you service them correctly. You won't find many fancy features such as leather or sunroof or any of that stuff. Dodges are commonly come standard with a manual transmission so that they can haul better. Lastly Ford's diesels are the Cadilacs of diesels. These trucks come with many options in both interior and under the hood. Ford offers many things such as leather seats, sunroof, six CD changer, surround sound, or any of those other fancy things. Especially with the 7.3 there's no way you'll get more than 12 miles to the gallon, and that's pushing it. As for the minivans, there's not much difference between the different makes of minivans except the difference of engines and differnet trim packages. Although you might want to watch just how much plastic there is in the body. If there's a lot this could put your family in danger in the event of a major accident. Also look for a minivan that has side curtain air bags to help protect loved ones in the second and third row seat(thebabies). Hope this information has been helpful and please give it a good rating. Thanks for taking your time to read it.
