Corvette Overrated
You can see a Chevrolet Corvette in many Hollywood movies. Most of the girls in the world know Corvette because of the Barbie. Corvette is a car that represents the American spirit, freedom and pride. Corvette is not commercial like the Ford Mustang, it has something special. All around the world, if you ask someone to name an American car, the first name would be Corvette. In Europe or any other part of the world; if you drive a Corvette, the people will be looking at you and your car. Corvette is the American dream. Not many cars have a history but this car has a history that started in 1953. There are thousands of Corvette fan clubs around the world. I am not a Corvette fan but I admit Corvette is one of the greatest sports cars.
The Corvettes are fast and quick. The new ZR1's LS9 V8 engine produces 638 hp that can take the Corvette up to 330 km/h and 0-60 mp/h is 3.4 seconds. Supported by Brembo brakes and adjustable suspensions; ZR1 becomes a rival for Ferrari and other super cars. Not a surprise, Corvette has won the 24 Hours of Le Mans GT1 Class five times in the past six years. Corvette also won many awards like Best Engineered Car of the 20th Century.
As fast as Ferrari and as quick as a Lamborghini, Corvette has few flaws. No wonder GM is having hard time nowadays. Like most of the GM cars, Corvette has a low interior quality and outdated design. GM has been using cheap parts in all of their cars. There is nothing that makes you 'wow in the Corvette. The seats are almost the same as the cars from the 1970s; uncomfortable and needs more side bolster. The materials that are used for the interior is plastic. The gauges look good but not very much sporty. DIC (Driver Information Center) is very small and you need to give your whole attention to that if you want to see some useful information. You need to slam on brakes if you need to stop safely. A soft touch on the brake pedals won't help you to slow down even there is the Brembo braking system. You feel like you are driving a truck if you own a manual gearbox Corvette. Plus the center console gets hot because of the transmission heat. Despite all of these problems, Corvette is a great car.
For now, I believe Corvette is a little bit overrated. If GM can make some improvements like higher interior quality and reliability, Corvette would be a perfect sports car and nobody would ever think about Corvette as overrated.
