Citroen Ds3 Named as best Diesel Car by Diesel Car Magazine
The eye-catching Citroen DS3 has been named as the best diesel car of 2011 by Diesel Car magazine which is recognized as an authority on the diesel car market in the UK. Other high-flyers in the magazine’s annual contest were the Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4 – the first diesel hybrid – which won the best eco car award, the newly-launched Ford Focus which was the best medium-sized car and the Ford Mondeo which was judged to be the best large car. The Jaguar XF took the award for the best executive car for the fourth year in succession while the Land Rover Discovery 4 was the best 4x4 for the second year in a row. The Peugeot RCZ took the honours as the best sports car while the Skoda Superb Estate was the best estate car, both also for the second year running. Kia had cause to celebrate as its new Sportage model won the best crossover award while Seat scooped the best MPV accolade with its new version of the Alhambra people carrier.
The Citroen DS3, the French car maker’s premium quality supermini, was voted the best small car as well as being the best diesel car of 2011. More than 80,000 DS3s have been sold during the model’s first year on the market. Purchasers have been attracted by its modern styling and rewarding driving dynamics.
More than 300 new diesel cars were put through their paces by expert testers to find winners in ten categories, with the Citroen DS3 emerging as the best model. Diesel Car magazine editor Ian Robertson said: ‘The Citroen DS3 has an ageless air about it, with a youthful exuberance that gives it a trendy appeal, but at the same time exuding an enduring quality and substance. The driving experience combined a secure, planted feel with a pert, grippy liveliness that makes it real fun behind the wheel. Not only is it extremely talented on the tarmac, it looks fantastic, suits most pockets and is nicely kitted out. It’s the perfect car to make you feel good about yourself.’
The Diesel Car magazine award is the latest in a string of accolades for the DS3. Linda Jackson, Citroen UK’s managing director, said: ‘It’s great to see DS3 winning yet more important and prestigious awards. We are dedicated to providing cars with both personality and real-world practicality and combining those attributes with engines that sparkle while putting economy and the environment at the forefront of our thinking.’
