Chrysler Recall 2010 Chrysler Recalls over Half a Million Vehicles
Chrysler has added an additional round of recalls of vehicles in June 2010 affecting two of their popular models spanning several years. This announcement comes in the wake of a different recall announced less than a week earlier.
The first recall affected Dodge Caliber and Jeep Compass vehicles and the recall was connected to a risk ofpotential sticky pedals. The initial recall affected approximately 25,000 vehicles, but was later expanded to include cars sold in markets outside the U.S. and the number was increased to 10,000 vehicles.
Chrysler is now adding another recall that affects more than a half a million cars.
The first extensive recall impacts over 300,000 of the Dodge Grand Caravans and Chrysler Town & Country minivans models, years 2008 and 2009, sold in both the U.S. and international markets, the majority being in the domestic market.
This problem, which comprises of potential danger of a fire igniting inside the door of the vehicle, is described by the Chrysler Groups to the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) as "an improperly routed wiring harness" which can be rubbed by a sliding door and causing a short circuit. According to the automaker, 57 reports of vehicles having "thermal damage", however no accidents or injuries are known at this time.
The other large recall Chrysler initiated related to over 300,000 Jeep Wranglers, years 2006-2010, being recalled with the majority of cars in the U.S. and the rest sold in global markets.
In this recall issue, Chrysler relates the problem being the front inner fender liner potentially rubbing against brake lines and creating a leak in the brake line. As a result, this could impact the effectiveness and operation of the brakes leading to a "partial loss" and the NHTSA states this partial loss could increase the risk of crash. With this problem, Chrysler reports not being informed of any accidents or injuries.
The NHTSA reports Chrysler will be sending out notifications to owners and dealers will be repairing the problems at no cost to vehicle owners. The recall outreach notices are anticipated to begin during June 2010.
Owners who have concerns or questions are directed to either call Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403 or contact the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236.
