Chevy Volt Electric Cars Hit the Streets

From 3arf

Finally quality electric cars are being released by the automotive companies.  With all the issues and rising costs around fossil fuels this is a bright ray of hope for the future.  Unfortunately the initial rollout of these cars from general Motors is only for 350 vehicles, but what these cars show is an amazing glimpse of the future of cars.

♦  Valuable

The Chevy Volts will be selling initially for 41,000 apiece.  This price makes them a little expensive for the average car buyer, but not out of reach.  Considering there is a 7,500 tax credit from the government for purchase of the electric car, this helps to put the price far closer to the grasp of the average car buyer.  Not only is the price reasonable (and could perhaps decrease) but hybrid cars have proven to becars that hold their sale value.

♦  Fuel Economy

The whole point of the Volt is to be a vehicle that is very close to a true electric vehile.  A hybrid car runs on electric power and at some point switches over to straight gas.  This makes them over all a lot more economical, but when they switch to gas they still run off normal MPG for gas.  They may be very economical for short trips, but a little less economical for longer trips.

The volt though works a little differently.  It runs for about 35 miles on 100% electric power.  After that distance the volt switches over to a gas fueled electric generator.  Because it uses this generator rather than straight gas it is claimed that the Chevy Volt will get an amazing 93 miles per gallon.  Since the Volt also has the 35 miles without using and

♦  Chevy Volt; the car of the future

Calling the Chevy Volt the car of the future is not really a boast.  It is more of a “problem.”   Chevy really only has some working prototypes of the Volt right now.  It is an awesome car with many fine features, lots of power, torque and built in android OS integration and navigation by OnStar.  The problem is that there are not nearly enough for release yet.  The earliest rollout date is still over one and a half years away.  This great “car of the future” is coming, but it seems that it is not coming fast enough.
