Carpool Safety Tips

Carpooling also known as car sharing, ride sharing, is the collective use of a car by few people. Members could use their personal vehicle or a taxi for the carpooling. Carpooling works effectively if each member adheres to the guidelines set by either the owner of the transport or the members.Carpooling is normally done when a set of people get together to commute jointly to either a common destination or to a common route. Once the idea of shared drive is formulated among its members, the next step is to decide the transporter or check if there is any member who is willing to lend his car for carpooling. There should certainly be a back up for the vehicle and the driver.Next comes, the costing. There are various factors to be kept in mind when deciding a cost per head. When the members get together for carpool by a public transport, there is a different strategy and if there is a personal transport involved, it will be dealt differently. For instance, there is a member who owns a car but does not like driving the car. Letting his car used for a share ride, will cost him less than others who take a ride in his car. Based upon the decision on the car, if a member is using his car, the cost of any wearing away will be kept in mind while estimating the cost on carpooling. Thereafter the other important criteria, gas expense and toll tax will be kept in mind.Once an estimate is ready, members should decide on how they want to regularize the payment part. There could be two solutions to it, either paying fortnightly, monthly or make a daily payment.Next is to set rules for behavior practice. Each member could have his own pass time practice. For example, one member likes to listen to the music and other does not. Hence, making guidelines for dos and don'ts in the beginning is the good step.Safety is the key aspect. While all the rules are being laid down, safety can not be ignored. A general speed limit should be set. There are many who like to drive and ride in a formula race car, others should not be made taking their lives at stake.Last step in organizing carpool is the reporting time of the car. The distance to the destination, traffic and the distance of each member's house to one another, should be born in the mind before deciding the reporting time of a car. In this regard, telephone number of members and driver should also be exchanged. The aftermath of carpooling is beneficial for the members as well as for the environment. Fuel consumption, pollution and traffic are few of the hazards to the environment. Besides, each driver is also going through the trauma of passing through the traffic jams. Would this not be a good idea if we adapt carpooling as much as we can and make the environment safer and greener.
