Car Reviews 2012 Volvo C70 Inscription
The2012 Volvo C70 convertibleindeed possesses what can be best described as the “aha!” effect on lovers of convertibles and coupes. Since its inception in 2006, this fine blend of art and technology has always lived up to its characteristics of safety, comfort and above all, a level of practicality that is near impossible to match by other soft-top convertibles. The C70 is available in three trim levels, the standard T5 base model, the T5 premier plus and the T5 platinum.
When you step into the C70, you immediately appreciate the cocoon of luxury that is presented in the form ofhigh end leather upholstery, an exclusive leather layered dashboard and for the platinum model, a top of the line 14-speaker audio surround system (6 more speakers than in the base and premier plus models). There is also the option of a wood or aluminum trim. Generally the Volvo’s interior design is based on the concept of sleekness and style. However, during long trips, adults seated in the rear section will experience some hint of discomfort as the leg room is a bit tight although kids will not have any issues.
In case you choose to have the optional navigation unit fitted, you will have to deal with a very confusing interface which might very well be the worst on the market. All retractable hardtop models lose trunk space when the top is down and so the Volvo’s trunk shrinks from 12.8cubic feet to 6.0 cubic feet when the top is lowered. These figures however present a far better picture compared to a large chunk of the competitors.
The sleekness of the Volvo C70 Inscription is enhanced by 18-inch alloy wheels and a black colored rim that is polished on the spokes and outer perimeter. The front end is a complete manifestation of elegance in the form of a grille that is coated with high-gloss paint and LED daytime running lights, both surrounded by contrasting chrome. This convertible is available in three colors, ice white (solid), black stone (solid) and black sapphire (metallic).
Beneath the hood of the Inscription is a turbo-charged 2.5 liter in-line five-cylinder engine with an expected output of 227 horsepower and 236 pound feet of torque. Standard features include front wheel drive and a five-speed automatic transmission system with manual-shift control. According to EPA, fuel economy estimates for the powertrain are 18mpg for cities and 28mpg for the highway, giving a combined figure of 21mpg.
Standard safety features for the Volvo C70 include stability and traction control, curtain-style front seat airbags, front seat-mounted side airbags, anti-lock disc brakes and brake assist plus automatically deploying roll bars. In crash tests, the C70 received the highest rating of “Good” for frontal offset and side impact protection from the Insurance Institute for Highway protection.
Although the C70 does not very much deliver a sports car performance in terms of power and handling like its more expensive competitors, it still offers a pleasant driving experience and so it will be gladly accepted by the vast majority of convertible lovers. Price per unit is from 39,950 us dollars.
