Bp and the Price of Fuel

From 3arf

Free gas passes for the over 65's-UK Petrol - BP Beyond Petroleum, better known as British PetroleumWhat on earth does 'Beyond Petroleum' actually mean? This is the apparent updated BP re- branding that has come out this last year that obviously means they are supposedly attempting to reviewing alternative methods of fuelling, I guess. I know that in 2005 BP were asked by the government to replace petrol, so 3 years later they changed their name. That is the only evidence that they have in looking for alternative methods is a twenty minute think-tank brain-storm in 3 years. The board of directors must think the environment minister is as soft as Aunt Mavis handing out home-work to a group of delinquent Bulgarian teenagers, on day release from Dover's immigration centre. Beyond Politics, that's what they think like. They are at present immune from any blame of poor attainment from green policies that determines the future of the globe. It is at present another scandal waiting in the in-tray of a tabloid editor. My investigations have proven fruitless when it comes to actual evidence of major re-thinking when it comes to alternatives to fossil fuel, the only notable seemingly pointless acclaim of what you would call action towards a non fossil fuelled world was a donation to a wind-farm of 5,000,000 GBP half a decade ago. Just about enough to employ 8.5 bankers. The sum is a very stingy amount which the Wind-farm company had to probably jump throughhoopsfor. In response the obvious signs are that wind-farming is not the correct answer to solve the alternative fuel question. One revolution is enough to power alight-bulbfor 2 minutes, hardly enough to power atrain-setin the attic, let alone a house, or a town. You can't blame BP for the poor use of wind-farm technology, but you can blame them for not devising another method. Bio-fuels, however, is a harvesting option, but stinks, therefore not creditable in the Western world today. The future does not align a substance that would cause more problems further down the route of our fuel dependency, so what BP are solving is the short-term emission by making fossil fuels cleaner for the atmosphere generally. In other words, not looking for alternative options but by trying to make a quick buck out of the ideology of re-branding a product they already have. It's okay, to do this if you're aInsurancebroker, or if you're a retailer, but is it unethical to implement this pattern of corporate mindset, when it determines the future of the planet? I question, all aspects of BP's consumerism ethics as they obviously have missed a trick.Beyond regulationI've dabbled with other energy reviews before that spell out a many faults at the heart of most energy company ethics, to the watchdog regulators who deem as useless when it comes to value and consumer care. The frustrations are endless, as in one hand BP have such a huge annual profit margin, yet in other industries the downturn has wrecked any form of profiteering. Figures show that the government takes a whopping 0.67p out of every 1.00 spent at the pumps, which is exemplary to a rogue state. Understandably BP then passes over the fees to the consumer so it doesn't damage their mass profiteering scheme. BP is very unlikely to ever lose a penny while dealing with this unsupervised wholesale market that allows the fat cats to make a killing, on the open market arena; which opens up high measures of fraud that is unaccountable to the UK treasury. This in my view should spell outward moneyfundregulating, the same strict regulating that are imposed on the high street supermarkets, the same strict measures that stop curled up green beans being sold to the public, or a deformed potato that is such an amusing talking point while gathered around for aSunday roast.Beyond windfall profitsI am under no illusion that BP is in fact should be taxed on their own over-inflated profit margins. The fact that they pass on the fees to the consumer whatever the financial forecast is as a means of pure exploitation makes me simmer. When asked about the outcome of why at the pumps the price is exploited 'beyond belief', they quote that the reason for that is due to the market wholesale price 'at the time' it was sold to them, I assume from theUkrainewhereby a huge 2% of all the UK petroleum is purchased. It is amazing what the fuel fat cats actually say in public. The fact that they have monopolized the market allows them to treat the hard-hit consumer in the pockets as and when, and again. This leads me to state that I was not surprised now that the lack of foresight in regards to Carbon Taxation has been left outside just like a disregardedtoytricycle in the rain. Why CET (Carbon Emission Tax) hasn't been implemented to corporations such like BP is baffling; yet another trickWestminsterhas missed as they muddle their way through the realization of deep economic hardship they created by themselves. Realistically, the whole matter could have been so much more positive for the normalJoe Bloggswhose small sandwich shop has to close due to no-one at work on a business park. The answer is in the North Sea on an oil rig. BP's profits could be subsidizing small business on the mainland. The sour point is of course is that it comes from the realms of Scotland; it is their inheritance from pre-historic tribal lands. You would of thought that the Scottish would have got a good deal out of having an oil rig on their doorstep, but alas no. It is even more expensive, weird is it not! Apparently, BP sends fuel on demand usually to UK mainland and in mass duty populated areas, and in these areas it is sold a lot cheaper than to the Scottish fisherman who can see the rigs from his boat. You got to feel sorry for those red-headed fiery Scots. It is a nightmare for them as at the moment the number of fisherman are dwindling as yet more businesses have had to fold due to the cost of petrol which is only a stone throw away. There own corporate stance goes 'beyond belief 'and it isn't just the Highlands who are suffering.Beyond logicLast October 2008, most of the supermarkets which had a forecourt slashedpetrol pricesdown, in response to BP's beyond logic price structure. The supermarkets made a short term loss on petrol alone, which was remarkable considering the downturn the UK was embarking. I was impressed by the supermarkets stance; they put the punters first even for that short time because they could see the effect it was having generally around the country. I know somewhere down the line they were going to re-coup the costs eventually but the foresight is what most businesses have to review at some-time or another; except BP of course who are blinkered by having too much profit and therefore cannot even relate to having a short-term loss even for a minute. It is beyond logic. On a different note, I was saddened at the potentially fatal helicopter crash that plummeted into the North Sea last month that caused a desperate relief rescue that saw the best of British spirit come out, as the relief team saved all the 18 people who wereready todescend onto the rig. It was a close call and it identifies the amazing job the rescue team does and also highlights the dangerous job aspects to the oil rig workers who spend all the working life on the rigs without seeing their families from months at a time.BP's UK HQ is at:UK Petroleum Industry Association, Quality House, Quality Court,Chancery Lane, London WC2A 1HP.Tel: 020 7269 7600. Email [email protected] review is titled: 'Free gas passes for the over 65's' I do believe that BP now should hand-out 'FREE gas passes' topensioners. It is time that they should reward pensioners and gives something back to the same people who have bought fuel from them for over 40 years. Don't get me wrong I'm no where nearpensionyears myself. It just makes sense, as the over 65's get afree buspass, so why not gas pass? It is worth lobbying for!For more in-depth information and contactsCEO: Dr.A. B.
