Bounty Hunters and Cops What’s the Difference

From 3arf

Often times, people speculate about the rights of abounty hunteror a bondsman over a police Officer. A bounty hunter, a bondsman, and a police officer are all required by law, to wear a badge to show that they have the rights to be doing what they are doing by capturing and arresting criminals. Just as police do, a bounty hunter or a bondsman has to have a copy of the active warrant available to show to the criminal if they request to see it, but they are not required to show it to them until the criminal is secure in custody to prevent them from running once they find out that the warrant is valid and active and that the bounty Hunter or bondsman does have the right to be doing this.Sometimes you will hear people saying that the biggest difference is that if you are caught by a bounty hunter or a bondsman that they might try to show the criminal that they care more than the police officers do. A bounty hunter or a bondsman might take extra time to sit down and talk to these criminals to see if they can figure out what is going on in the person's life that is causing them to make the poor choices that they are making. If they can figure it out and get the criminal to open up about these issues then the bounty hunter or bondsman might be able to provide the criminal with resources to get them on the right track instead of continuing to make poor choices when they are released from jail. Just because abounty hunteror bondsman captures the criminal does not necessarily mean that they will not have to do time for their crime, but the bounty hunter or bondsman might be able to get the sentence reduced if they can show a plan of action that the criminal is willing to and going to follow.A police officer does not need to have an active warrant to arrest someone if they are caught in the act of criminal activity.  If a police officer witnesses someone trying to do a criminal act they have the right to detain them for questioning and possible arrest if they have enough evidence. This is not the case when it comes to bounty hunters or bondsman.  Bounty hunters and bondsman have to have a warrant to arrest someone and take them into custody. On the other hand in some cases if a bounty hunter or a bondsman witnesses a criminal act they can go up as an innocent bystander and try to talk the person out of committing the crime or the bounty Hunter or bondsman can call 911 to report that the crime is being committed and then law enforcement can be dispatched to the scene to see what is going on, but the bounty hunter or bondsman does not have the legal rights to detain anyone until law enforcement arrives on the scene, they can just give a statement to the police as to what they saw.
