Best value 2011 Cars in the UK

A car is the second biggest asset that most people ever buy, and it's important to get it right. 2011 has brought several new models that won't break the bank and are cheap to run, which can be vital in the current economic climate.

TheFiat 500 TwinAirhas become a popular car with both young drivers and commuters alike. With no congestion charge, it can save over £2,000 for someone that drives into London every working day and is also road tax free. It costs as little as £10,000 to buy, and is the most efficient petrol engine in production anywhere in the world. Insurance is cheap and there are a range of options including leather seats and body stickers to suit your taste.

If the 500 does not turn your taste buds on, a good model that was released in September 2011 is theToyota Yaris. This is another small car that has become popular with driving schools and young people because Toyota have always been so reliable, with some driving school cars clocking up an amazing 200,000 miles on a 1.4 diesel engine, which would be unheard of in the equivalent Ford Fiesta or Vauxhall Corsa. Fuel economy can be as high as 75mpg, due to start-stop technology, and a diesel model which may achieve higher returns should be here in 2012.

For someone preferring something a little larger, theFord Focusmay be a good bet. The base model, still loaded with kit in basic spec, is £13,995, at the higher end of the budget market, and the TDCi models can reach up to 75mpg, just off the Yaris, meaning that the extra cost can soon offset itself. Ford cars are proven to last 250,000 miles in European markets, and this should be no exception. The car drives perfectly and feels well built, with quality interiors in even the basic spec, and the Titanium Estate model feeling even better.

As a budget hot hatch, theMG 6could be a good bet, starting at as little as £15,495. MG are new into the UK following the winding up of Rover, meaning that it should be reasonably easy to get a large chunk off this price. The car will make you look twice and is a great alternative to some of the more mainstream options, with higher equipment levels and a range of options to give the middle BMW models something to be fearful of, however with the company only just reintroduced to the UK, this may hit resale values hard, meaning that if you wish to change after 2 years, the future value may be a little uncertain.
