Best Ways to Remove Car Dents
The modern car manufacturer is under constant pressure to make more fuel efficient cars and in their zest to achieve this, car bodies are made out of thinner and thinner metals. Just leaning on a modern car can create a visible dent.
Dents are annoying and can detract from the appearance of the car and most people would like to see the dent miraculously disappear. There are various things one can do. If the dent is created by a minor accident with another car you can claim the repair on your insurance policy. If rich enough, you can take the car to the local car body shop.
For the rest of car owners it is down to the individual to remove the dent himself. How can car dents be effectively removed? There are dent removers on the market for the do it yourself enthusiast. The crudest is a tool which drills a hole in the centre of the dent and the user pulls the dent out. This method will leave a hole to deal with and a paint job cannot be avoided.
There also some dent pullers which can be glued on and when the glue is set you can pull the dent out. This avoids a hole as the glue can be removed after. However, with deep dents cracking of the paintwork may be unavoidable.
If it is an awkward dent you might consider using car filler and fill out the dent and sand it to a smooth finish. Deep dents might need a metal mesh inserted which will need a fiber glass coating before applying car filler to finish the job. The finished job will also need to be painted and lacquered.
A more sophisticated method of dent removal which works well onshallow clean dents; this method requires a hair dryer and a can of CO2. The CO2 will freeze the car panel and the heat of the hair dryer will cause a significant temperature change and will luck the dent will spring back to its former shape thereby saving the car owner an expensive paint job.
If you can reach behind the dent a very gentle bop with a mallet whilst heating the surface with a hairdryer might be enough for the dent to give up and pop out.
Scuff marks are easily removed with a cutting powder and polish. Scratches can be disguised with colored wax which to the untrained eye looks like a tube of lip stick. There are also colored wax polishes which disguise small marks and scratches.
